England in the West Indies

World Cup Winners 2019

Did anyone really believe this would happen? The project only needs one shit performance - which we've always got in our locker - to go up in smoke and we've wasted the last five years. And they've done it at expense of the test team. Would have been better to consistently improve coaching and leadership in all formats.

Really? Then why am I not doing the same with Buttler, you absolute helmet?

That’s because you have looked an even bigger prick slagging off a player straight after scoring 150. So what is your big problem with an England ODI opener that has averaged over 50 in the last 12 months and has as good a record in terms of runs, average and strike rate as anyone we have ever had? A problem that has led you to laughing and mocking him whenever he’s out. Just curious that’s all.

How people think having the best one day side in the world, playing in the main brilliant entertaining cricket, will be a waste of 5 years, just because they may lose a knockout game in the World Cup is simply beyond me.

We are people assuming this new brilliant style of one day cricket that our team are playing was just for one project i.e. The World Cup

The short sighest people on this board is simply incredible.

The cricket our one day team have played and continue to play is brilliant yet somehow people put a negative spin on it!

He's overrated as fuck in test cricket. If we had any decent batsmen, he'd be fighting Jos Buttler for a place.

What about the brilliant games our one day team have played and will continue to play after the World Cup.

Because it's been done in an unsustainable way and at the expense of the test team.

What structural differences has the ECB made to our cricket to ensure continued success? Where are the new players pushing for selection? We just just hired the best ODI coach in the world and told him to polish up a team to win the world cup.

The inability of people to read posts is incredible.

He is the second best batsman in the test team.

Only because the rest of them are shit.

Besides, I suspect Stokes and Buttler may be better on current form.

The one day side, shows no sign imo, of not been sustainable and whatever happens during the World Cup, after it we will continue to have a fanastic side.

The current one day side is the best in my lifetime (at 47) we should be enjoying the wonderful cricket on show instead we get constant negativity from some!

The shift to more focus on one day cricket has been world wide by most countries over the last 5/10 years, in fact the ECB and English cricket were slow to pick up the mantle, thank god there did as we now have a fanastic side.

Polish up a team!! fabrace and Bayliss revolutionised it! and changed the whole face of it and it's approach almost overnight.

No signs of unsustainable indeed. How many young players are pushing for selection? Where is the succession management at coaching level? They just let Farbrace join Warwickshire. It's all about this summer's world cup, there is no plan beyond that.

I am also 47 and can remember several good England ODI sides, such as the one that reached the World Cup final in 1992 or the ones that reached the finals of the Champions Trophy in 2004 and 2013. Most don't though, as they won no trophies and it all went to shit soon after.

There is less people pushing for selection across all formats, there are various reasons for that, like less participation full stop, lower down the chain.

The brand of cricket, and positive outlook of this side, our the last 4 years, far outweighs any side in the past, and I honestly struggle how the current positive mentality of our side can be looked at in such a negative way.

We are an absolute shambles mentally. Once a pitch has something about it or a batter has something about them or a bowler does we fall to pieces. A pitch swings and every single player will get out nicking off, a bouncy pitch like today and we lose 9 wickets to stupid pull shots that are completely unnecessary. One batsman with a reputation and we look terrified of him (Gayle), same with bowlers who have a spell like Brathwaite did today and we look terrified. Basically cannot get things like this out of our heads long enough to actually play cricket.

The pitch today was bouncing but to lose 9 to short balls is embarassing. Won’t win the World Cup because we’ll shit ourselves when we come up against Kohli or Gayle and just let them bat to victory

They have one way of batting.... attack hard. And if that isn't working, attack harder. And if that doesn't work, go even harder. And if all else fails, try to smash everything as hard as possible. Looks great in white ball cricket until it doesn't, and then it looks horrible. I'm afraid you're just going to have to get used to it as that's all they've got. I fancy the World Cup will be about some of the flatest pitches ever produced and bringing the boundries in a few feet to give our ball strikers the best possible chance.

It's destroyed the Test batting as well, but that seems to be a price they're happy to pay.

I'm not sure there's another tactic available. White ball cricket is all about setting a big total, if you don't there's no merit in setting a small one and retaining wickets … it's not like you get another innings to put it right.

Can’t believe the over reaction to one bad day at the office. Haven’t we won something like 10 ODI series in a row?

Then again people were talking about how watching us smash 418 being boring then ripping their skeletons out over Chris Gayle knocking it to all parts.

This is the best ODI side we’ve had in my lifetime (1992 was good mind all relative to time though) yet people seem to want to find ways to pull it to pieces.

Very strange.

One bad day?

In the main it seems we have one bad game every series. In this series, it was well played game one; how on earth did we manage to lose game two?; held the nerve well game 3 & then utterly atrocious in game 4. If the World Cup was done on a league we'd win at a canter, especially on home soil. But everyone in cricket knows, that there's a shambolic performance waiting in the wings no matter whether we're at home or away.

England will still rightly go into the World Cup as favourites. Whether they have the discipline, or ability to handle the pressure, I have my doubts.

And how many bad days are other countries having then? More than us it would seem.

Regardless of how the World Cup plays out it doesn’t mean this side isn’t a fantastic ODI outfit.

Anything can happen in a one off game but I really don’t get the criticism the lads are coming in for.

After the utter dross over the years in ODI cricket I don’t understand how people can’t just enjoy it.

I didn't say that we weren't a fantastic side. I stated quite clearly that if it was a league basis we'd walk it. But, when the pressure is on, I have my doubts as to whether or not the team can handle it.

I know it’s such a refreshing approach to our one day cricket, than the sad old days we were just looking to bat the 50 overs.
