Very funny bloke but very troubled bloke in real life. A bit of a Robin Williams type who was likely depressed and felt like he had to be ‘on’ all the time. No wonder he became mates with Keith Moon.

I think PS himself said that if you strip away all the characters he played and the personas he created for films there’s be nothing left of himself underneath.

In one of the David Niven biographies I read, DN was chuffed to be in the Pink Panther and there was early talk of it being a franchise so he thought he’d be quite in for years to come, then when PS got involved he stole the show and it gradually dawned on Niven that his character was being moved aside to make room for more Clouseau.

Did some work in the house he had built in Hampstead for him and Britt Eckland after they were married. Long after he sold it like. It’s more like a medical centre than a house.
 
He had an impersonation of Michael Caine, nigh on perfect
