MAN V FAT Football

I did it in 2017 at Raich Carter in the inaugural Sunderland season that was between September and December. I lost a few clem and was lightest weight I'd been for about a decade. The 2nd season didn't happen as the pitch was shite and it was supposed to move to BOL but it was delayed. After the first season we went down St. George's with other various location teams and played a World Cup type tournament. We didn't get through from the group stages but gave the eventual winners who were in our group a good game. Best of all was we did get to play the Mags (who were in another group and also didn't get through) in a 'friendly' and beat them 2-0 ;)

I posted a thread about St. George's and overall the whole thing was well worth the experience in my opinion.

An experience of the Nationwide Man v Fat Football Tournament at St. George's Park today

Here's me getting the 2nd goal right at the end of the match down St. George's. After it goes in, look at the Mags keeper flat out and the defender whose heads drops when it goes in. We also played the MvF Mags lads at the SOL in an 11 aside game last May in the Play On The Pitch experience and smashed them 8-3. We then played a 3rd time in October at the BOL on the indoors upstairs pitch in a 9 aside game and beat them summit like 6-2. So it's 3 in a row for the 'fat' lads against the Mags

The 1st season of MvF and St. George's was a canny experience and something I'd urge people to look at doing if they want to lose weight and get fitter etc. MvF had issues in that 1st season so most didn't bother going back for the 2nd season as there was a gap of 6 months so about 20 of us just played at Goals instead. The pitches at the BOL are far better than Raich Carter's bar astro turf. It's a far smaller pitch though as they play 6 aside and you're open to the elements which can be shite during winter months.

Now the ex-MvF 1st season lads just play at the BOL on the indoors pitch upstairs. Even though most have lost weight already, we do a similar thing where the lads get weighed in beforehand. From this they can earn free games plus there's also a league that's worked out every couple of month to get more free games. It's cheaper at £5 for the full hour rather than £6 at MvF for 30 mins or less if there's subs as the MvF squads can be up to 10 players. With MvF you pay a monthly direct debit, so if you miss a game you still pay and you may still have to pay summit even if it's called off so it's best you check first.

Do you get kicked out when you go below a certain weight?

I’m overweight by the usual measures but not obese and would be annoyed to start enjoying it then not go anymore if I got in half decent shape!
No I don't think you'd get kicked out if there's still spaces left the next new season (14 games) and there's still spaces free so no worries about that happening at the moment. You have to have over 27.5 BMI (I think) so most will be able to qualify even if you're only carrying a few extra lbs. Like I said, MvF is well worth it for the motivation factor alone of getting rid of a few lbs and also the St. George's experience (I think it's twice a year).

Keep meaning to have a look in like. Might see how much it is to book a pitch one time.
It's £40 until 4:30pm slots and £45 from 6:30pm on. The indoor full pitch is £65 and you can play 7, 8 or 9 a side.

This might suit some on here if Man v Fat is still too much for them

It’s overpriced for what you get. 20 mins game time at best
You get 30 playing in goal ;) but not as physical as playing out. Though that 1st season we both played there, there was a shortage of players so we could fill in for other teams. I'd end up playing 3 games a week so getting over an hour on the pitch. No wonder I lost the weight so easily as I was also playing 5 aside 3 times a week elsewhere   Put a lot back on now like so gonna have to do it all again over the coming months so I can get my speedos on come summertime

Been missing you at BOL mate, are you coming back? Is your ankle fully healed?

I was about to tag @MEEKLANGLEYFTM and there he is!
Aye he's been there, done it and got the shirt  He lost a shit load of weight anarl

What happens when they lose enough weight though and are no longer considered a fat fucker. They won’t be allowed to play and will be cut off from their friends. Seems it’s encouraging people to get fat and stay fat.

Tony Davison was saying he does it, fair play for getting involved like.

You would literally twist about anything.

If everyone got skinny then they'd make nee money if they booted people ;) As I mentioned in my brief post earlier, I think you'd only get booted if it was full and there was were new lads who are over the 27.5 BMI wanting to join and a lad under the BMI was taking a space.

It's the 4th season at Sunderland now and it's never had a full set of players (80 lads in 8 teams with 10 in squad). At the minute there's only 6 teams like there was in the 1st and 2nd seasons (there was 8 teams last season but it went to pot later in the season as lads dropped out) so plenty of room for skinny lads so to speak

It’s pretty poor. 30 mins of football and no real help with the weight loss side of it. I played one season then packed in. There’s some canny lads play and it’s competitive to a degree but that’s about it.

What were you expecting, someone to sit at the table with you and slap the fork out of your hand and shout fatty everytime you go for seconds?

No just what you were promised for your monthly fee. Thanks for your input on the thread though.

Don't think so, they just monitor your weight on a different scoring system.

The pitch upstairs is nice like. Think it's similar prices to goals

The large pitch upstairs is more enjoyable for me than the small outside cages and it's far bigger than the 9 aside one at goals. We used to play there before we moved to the BOL when it opened. There's far more space but I also like that it keeps you dry, protected from the wind and it's a few degrees warmer anarl. I've had enough of playing outside in shite weather over the years plus no more of those black rubber bits that end up everywhere!

Hopefully the ankle's not too bad so take it easy mate and let me know when you are fit again to play. The game was hard work tonight and we lost 5-4 to a goal scored in the very last second! Plus I gained this week so nee bonus goals for me as I get 1 against me! I'm probably gonna end up in the relegation places in this season's league at this rate
