Ched Evans...

Was just going to paste that tweet.

I don’t believe it, I think it’s because he was down the list, which hopefully means we’ve got who we want from further up the list :)
Good. I'm not getting bogged down into arguing about what he did. The point is it would've been a kick in the teeth for the club and the city. Twitter jokers were gearing up as soon as there was a link.

Yes we should certainly allow these people to dictate what our football club does ...

... every potential signing should be taken to a Twitter poll

And yet his girlfriend at the time’s father was one of his most vocal supporters. I might be wrong but I believe he funded evans’ defence. Would you do that if it was your daughter and you believed him to be an odious monster? Perhaps he was closer to the facts, who knows?

Evans' side were also involved in a pretty shameful socia media campaign including publically naming the alleged victim in clear contempt of court.

If you were trying to calibrate your moral compass I'm not sure the defendant's supporters would be a particularly worthwhile place to start.

To be honest the whole case was rancid and I only kept abreast of proceedings because of my involvement on here.

Exactly this, and as a club we've had far too many scandal linked players. If we were happy to sack players for a gang bang in the past, then we're being disingenuous if we hire a high profile gang banger now.

You seem very invested in Ched's struggle there Riv.

The circus that would come with Ched Evans would derail whats left of the season. Promotion isn't decided by how many lame ducks you bring in.

I followed it because something didn’t sit right with the conviction. Basically there was no evidence of a crime and it wasn’t even reported by the alleged victim.

Would you pay for his defence if he admitted cheating on your daughter? Obviously wouldn't have been the first time either

Cheating on your daughter is one thing. Versus having his life completely ruined if found guilty (he was obviously pretty sure he wasn’t). Bit of a bizarre imbalance there like mate. Talking about a blokes life and career.

Absolutely not mate, far from it.

I am, however, invested in British justice and the rights of people judged and cleared by their peers.

Once we undermine that by introducing spurious stories of 'dirty tricks' by the defence, or prosecution, then we're becoming judge and jury ourselves.

A legally elected jury, having heard the evidence first hand, can be declared inept by the SMB amateur barristers.

This is sometimes because of our own agendas and prejudice that we dress up in vague terms and 'evidence'.

You seem to believe that his signing would blow our promotion chances which perhaps colours your judgement of him as a person ....

.... but I accept I may be totally wrong in that verdict ;)

There was sufficient evidence for the CPS to prosecute in the first instance and for a trial jury to convict.

I appreciate that the original verdict was overturned on appeal.

But as I said earlier, none of that alters the fact that his admitted behaviour on that night was pretty shameful.

The last thing the club needs right now is the inevitable negative publicity associated with this character. Them up the road will be rubbing their grubby little hands.

The last thing we need is a big divide with our own fans over this, let alone getting shit from outside sources.
