VW car - EGR valve needs replacing

had AA out to get car started , apparently the EGR valve needs replacing , any VW owners had this done ? Is it gonna cost arm and leg?

Mine went a couple of months ago, luckily I was still in warranty but they will cost a bit I was told.. They didn't give me a price though

just had both egr's replaced on mine (jag xf) and they were about 130 each i think.
it's the labour that'll bump the cost depending how easy they are to get to.

There is a firm in washy who cleans egr then by passes the sensor using software £400 I think.

Nightmare on golfs if that’s what he’s got.

Maybe injector. There’s a garage on leechmere specialised in diesel (performance something) they are class. Diagnosis needed mate.

Had it done 2 months ago at a VW garage for where it is in relation to the car and how awkward it is changing the EGR valve. It is expensive on the
Golf, cost me £890

I had it done on a 2011 Passat 1.6 diesel, cost about £600 was quoted lower but got a call when doing it and told it was a nightmare job and cost was going up, when i picked it up he said he should have been £800 but as he had quoted £400 then put it up to £600 he would only charge that - prob BS but hey ho. This was a back street garage and I had no choice but to use them as I needed the car to go on holiday the following day and they were the only ones I could find that could do it that day.

It’s a Vw Tiguan

AA bloke has blocked it off as a temporary fix (didn’t say how long that fix would last ?)
Said should contact Vw also as it can be related to the emissions update ?

Edit. @the boot inbox cleared ?

Blanked it off not blocked

Maybe worth getting one of those terraclean companies to take a look first.
Worst case you spend a ton and at least the rest of the engine internals get a good clean

Dealership told me I needed a new EGR valve 4 years ago. I'm still using the same one. As long as the diaphragm isn't torn it's fine just cleaning it.

You can get spray cans of specialist EGR cleaner but tbh any WD40 equivalent solvent will do the job.

If the car has been back to VW for the emissions recall work, they should do the EGR replacement as goodwill:

The Volkswagen Group is systematically refunding owners for EGR failures after the emissions “fix” |

Although the fact the AA gadgie has blanked it off might give them a get out clause. Worth a gan like.
He’s had to blank it off mate as car would not start at all . Rang Vw and they can do a report for £60 send it to their hq who decide if will meet some of the costs , maybe worth a try , otherwise be looking best part of a grand I reckon

Just take it off yourself and give it a good clean - takes half an hour to get off and around the same to put back on, cleaning can take anywhere upto 24 hour depending on what method you use I.E leaving it to soak.

My personal opinion would be to get a proper blanking kit, you can get these for around £30 = No more issues further down the line.

This. Seems like loads of these sorts of problems absolutely don’t need a replacement, they just need cleaning.
Wrong advice. Sometimes they can be cleaned but sometimes they are gone. There is more to the egr than a valve which clogs up. A clean is the first port of call hopefully it sorts it.

How do you get through mot like that though ?
Some older cars it doesent put the eml on so u can get away with it.
