A quick playstation 4 - Fortnite question.

Slow joe

My son is getting a playstation 4 for Christmas and I've got him the one with FIFA 19 bundle. He only wants it to play Fortnite which I need to download. I've never been into gaming so my question is - do I need to set up an account to download it ? Does it take long to download and will there be traffic on Christmas day holding it up ? I could set it up myself on Christmas Eve, do it all and have it ready for him on Christmas day but I'd rather not do that if it's going to be a couple of minutes job on Christmas day.

Ok it's more than one question but any help appreciated.

I'd do it the day before personally. Set his account then he can get straight on to it. Also you will be able to add any parental restrictions you want.

Does it take long to download ? It's just a right fart on to unpackage it, set it up, download, repackage, wrap... If it's only going to set us back an hour on Christmas day I'd rather wait.

I imagine you will need to do a couple of downloads and they can sometimes take a while. I'm not the most switched on regarding this kind of thing but you will probably need to update the playstation when you start it up then you will need to download the game. You will obviously need to connect to the Wi-Fi and create an account etc

Same here. I remember setting the sons up and had to put a blag date of birth in so he could play the 18 rated games. He was nearly 17 btw. Bare that in mind joe lad.

Takes ages to download some games. I’ve waited 6hr plus before. Can you not just have it set up with maybe a bow round the actual console?

You set up a play station account with your bank details etc for possible purchases in future then "buy" the basic version from the store for free .You pick a user name ( maybe ask the bairn as that will be his name on all he does )

The regular updates can be 10 minutes or so ,the initial set up longer but whether the everyone doing it at once makes a difference ,I dont know
Nothing will cost you unless you choose ,even the free stuff shows as a purchase at zero

As a side note, you need to link your bank card to create an online account. Ensure you lock access to it from your son or you’ll still be paying off this present this time next year. You can spend £100s in minutes on in game purchases.

An hours wait on Christmas day!!! He'll be on the phone to Social Services reporting you for neglect. It's not worth the hassle do it before the big day.

Don`t forget its xmas day the world over and every man and his dog will be trying to download the latest stuff. Forget the hour or so and try and get him to wait till boxing day

I would like it set up so he can just plug it in and play but this is very true
Do it before ,Easy to unbox
Setting your account up will take a bit of time then the machine sets itself up and finds wifi etc ,then you download fortnite

P's The fifa game will take probably 40 plus minutes to load as well

Ok thanks, you seem to know so I'm going to do it on Christmas Eve. FIFA isn't such a big deal but thanks, he prob won't ever play that so unless I decide to (unlikely) when he's at his mam's then it will just sit unopened. I'll get it all set up and ready on Monday then it's done.

Aye, best way. Fortnite will be quick, but you'll probably need to do a system update and a Fifa update anarl. At least an hour there I reckon. Nowt worse than not being able to play owt until Boxing Day eh?

Some canny free stuff in the store ..world of tanks ,goat simulator is good for kids but you buy that .

As someone else said, set it up and wrap a bow around it. You don't want him having to wait 5 or 6 hours for a game to download when he'll just want to get going straight away. It's straightforward enough to set up and google is your friend.

This type of shit is what Christmas eve is for - putting bikes/toys together and setting up a ps4 is a hell of a lot less hassle than that!

If it's a physical copy of Fifa and he won't play it I'd just sell it. As it's shit out year on year they don't hold any value at all come August onwards.
