How much do you spend on hobbies?

the boot

Winger
Following on from the other “look at me” threads. Got me thinking what do I spend most of my money on.

Fishing is the answer.
At least £50 a week in bait and Comp fees.

The biggest single item being £3k fishing pole.
Rods for £500
Reels £200 ish
I may even have a count up later of stuff I have (they have their own house)

So may rainy day question is what’s your hobby and how much does it cost. I think a lot of people will get a shock when they start adding it up.

Music is my main hobby and it’s not that expensive I’d say. This year it has cost me,

festival day ticket, me and wife £170
Gigs x10 £260
New Bose system £140
Spotify premium £120
cd’s £150

Total £840.

Fantastic value I’d say for something I get immeasurable pleasure from.

So how do you describe the difference between a 'fishing pole' and a 'fishing rod'?

fishing as well...but its pretty cheap

70 quid for my club fees annually
28 quid for the rod licence

20 quid for some new flies per season and probably 50 quid once a year for a new line

have not changed rods and reels for about 7 years now as I am very happy with them...rod cost me about 250 notes in a sale an the reels was about 100 quid

so set up up quite costly but after that for the pleasure it gives me its worth every penny

a pole is exactly that..its a really lone carbon fibre pole in sections that you extend out to target an rear very specifically the line is fixed to the tip by a shock absorbing mechanism to absorb the energy when the fish bites..the pole isnt flexible like a rod

a rod you cast in the traditional sense with a reel of line...it has eyes for the line and bends...a lot

Cheers, that makes sense to me now.

coarse fishing is very static..you see people rocking up with a cars load of gear on trolleys

I fly fish and all i need fits in my pockets..I walk around 5 miles when I am fishing on an evening at waskerley reservoir..but then a match angler might catch 30 or 40 fish in a session..I might catch 3, but its more about the freedom and the outdoors for me...catching a fish is just a bonus

I’ve got lots of things I do in what spare time but it isn’t structured.
Fishing boat , service about £150 per year but the boat was about £3k about 5 years ago.
Guns. Probably cost about £2k over the years but apart from licensing every few years it’s a bout £50 per year for ammunition.
Football, about 5 games per year the last 2 years.
Pigs..........loads of money but we do make on selling the meat but not a lot. We break even I reckon

Photography: It is quite expensive the more you get into it.
Decent camera and a few good lenses soon adds up. I must have between £4,000 - £5,000 worth of kit and I am just an enthusiastic amateur. Some of the serious boys pay much more than that for one lens.

Forgot to mention the horses as well. Mine cost £2,500 over 14 years ago. He must have cost me an absolute fortune in the meantime.

My pastimes are drinking, clays, eating out, eating in, watches, holidays, buying stuff for the house.

Usually spend anywhere between a pund and five grand.
