England in Sri Lanka Red Ball

Déjà vu for England - win the toss and bat first.

I know I'm biased, but seeing a batsman wearing the three lions actually leaving the ball makes me love Rory Burns even more.

256-1 the odds on Root winning eight consecutive coin tosses.

Pffft, that's nowt, I won the first 10 last summer!

And no, I can't sleep.

Sri Lanka's courieri hasn't improved.

12-0

That was supposed to be fielding. I've no idea what courieri is. or how I got it so wrong:eek:

Dickwella is a mentalist mind. The ball could pitch in India and he'd be convinced it's out.

not really

such an unfair statement

he was a world class gloveman and batsman averaging 42 from 7 in the 2 years before he was shunted up

Not sure where this unfair criticism has come from, england fans like to turn on our best players sometimes
I agree. I can't see there's any cause to criticise Bairstow. He's been fantastic with bat and gloves, doesn't deserve to lose either. OK some posters on here think Buttler and Foakes are better wickies perhaps but if we didn't have them I reckon we'd be perfectly happy with Bairstow behind the stumps.

It's easy enough to find fault with this team not imho not with Bairstow.

and well done Stokes and Bairstow 50 and 100 … now double it :p

He should have played in the 2nd test

I totally disagree with leaving someone out when they only missed out because of injury

Weak by Stokes that

Agree totally he is our second best batsman in the team and should always be in the team.

He should not be batting at 7 any more, to have your second best batsman in the team soo low down the order to risk been stranded not out for not much if tail does not wag is not a good idea imo.

Over the moon he has scored runs higher on the order.

I’m not getting into where he should bat

But he was performing very well at 7, he then gets moved up to 4 and 5 and still keeps wicket

His scores drop a bit and calls for him to drop start, think it was out of line by sections of media and don’t think he was treated well by the management either

They’ve done a very very dangerous thing which means now next time a gun player gets injured he might end up dropped

Stokes one was a shocker

Didn’t think Bairstow was out to naked eye

Aye, would be spitting blood if something as bad Stokes's went against England. Hitting middle bang in front. Embarrassing.

Bairstow has batted beautifully but the lad really needs to screw his head on with that celebration.

It's simple: he got injured and the lad who came for him in scored a beautiful century and quite possibly the match-winning fifty - and the team won two tests!

The lad needs to get over himself. Is he one of England's most talented cricketers: yes - 100 per cent. Even when I've called for him to sit out, I've always acknowledged that. It's stupid to say otherwise and I've always believed - and still believe - he has the talent to be a world class top order batsman. He is talented enough to adapt his game.

But.

Nobody is entitled to a place in the England side - and he really does give off the impression that he thinks he is. Most of the media were saying he should really, in the interests of the team, think about applying himself to moving up the order - they weren't saying he should be out, long-term! So what's his gesturing all about - he's just vindicated them!!!

Think Foakes is better bet long-term than Moeen at seven. Like the way Foakes can be defensive and let some of the stroke players around him be more aggressive. He can't really do that at eight - but if he bats at seven, with Moeen and Curran/Woakes to come, then we can really hurt teams.

That said, could be tactical. Moeen starts flaying some tired bowling around in this heat, things could get very depressing for Sri Lanka.

My view is more simplistic in such as a quality player like him should not be dropped as he is clearly the second best batsman in the side.

And as such the second best batsman in any side should be higher up the order.

The game is littered with people who have starterd down the order remember Ponting starting at 6 and scoring runs but as they progress they rightly moved up the order as they get better as batsman.

He's come across as a complete c*nt since the summer IMO.

Did you see his celebration? Absolutely bizarre.

Yes, exactly.

Sloppy from Foakes that shot...

Ball is turning consistently, 300 is a decent score IMO.

Tend to agree. It's faster, bouncier turn - which is more difficult to deal with over five days than the slow, low stuff we had the last two games. When it dries out and really starts to rag its going to be an absolute minefield.

Batting fourth on this will not be pretty.
