Glastonbury 2019

I couldn't name a single Stormzy track.
Partly a sign of me getting older, partly me still thinking it's 1995 in musicworld.

Good luck to the bloke.

I can.
"Blinded by your grace.
I heard it yesterday on the drive home. My initial reaction was "What is this shit?". It sounded like belonged on Songs of Praise

Modern music is absolutely terrible and I am only 34 but jesus wept.

How that Niki Minaj is classed as a musician/rapper baffles me daily. She features on every single song at the moment and hasn't grasped the concept of how to rhyme words. One of her amazing lyrics featured how she was sorry but it is ok as her dad is Indian and likes a good curry. Not a clue why she brought this up but she is a mega millionaire!

It's a strange one like. He's the poster boy for Grime but he only has one album. I'm assuming his set will be full of guest appearances to pad it out otherwise it's going to be the shortest headline set ever.

Modern music is superb and due to technology / internet there’s more of it than ever. Out of interest, how much new music do you listen to ?
If you don’t , Tell me a genre you like from the past and I reckon I could name ten modern bands / artists you’d like.

2 albums with new music before the summer ( apparently )

one album and hes headlining glastonbury? That's a bit ridiculous tbf, you should have a decent back catalogue behind you before even thinking of headlining

Oasis headlined it with one album, it's been done more than once before.

She's got arguably the best verse on the best album of the decade. She's not a bad rapper by any means.

Each to there own and I appreciators not just about the music, but I’d be disappointed with these charlatans if I’d paid £200 for a ticket.

Rather see the spice girls

Not a fan of Stormzy at all, but describing him as a charlatan is ridiculous. Again, I hate grime music but there are a lot of people out there who like it and this guy has come from an underprivileged background, released an EP without a record label and ended up headlining Glastonbury. We should be praising achievements like this not trying to knock them down. It's brilliant that Glastonbury gives these people a platform for success. Music constantly evolves and Glastonbury is a music festival that covers many genres, I'm pretty sure I will find myself somewhere else while Stormzy is on but I am happy for him to be given the chance.

Good post.
I’m not into Grime particularly but that’s more to do with me being white, Northern and middle aged. I’m not really the correct demographic ! Saying that, it’s exciting and undoubtedly what the youth of today are into and very much important to them.
Stormzys appearance at the Brits was one of the most exciting, challenging, controversial and thought provoking bits of live music I’ve seen. Pardon my French but he’ll f***ing destroy Glastonbury.
It’s a big hats off to Glastonbury for making these bookings, by putting Stormzy / Kanye / Jay Z headlining they’re remaining current and contemporary whilst putting on a festival that’s diverse and interesting.
They’d become very boring by just booking nostalgia acts.

After Stone Roses released their first album, I'd say they would be 'entitled' to headline Glastonbury based on that alone? Don't need a massive back catalogue if you have 12 cracking tunes

Im no fan of Stormzy - but fair play to organisers for sticking him up there.

But don't forgot the 'headline' announcements are just for the press/media/message boards to discuss and argue about - 3 artists out of probably around 1000 or so over the weekend - who f***ing cares ?!

The beauty of Glastonbury is if you don’t like the headliner, theres 1,000,000 other things you can do

Exactly, which why I worry that the constant criticism of the young, underprivileged black artists is something more sinister than the music they play.

Excellent booking. I see already the elitist, middleclasstonbury, non music enthusiast is not happy about a young, anti establishment black man infiltrating their soirée.
He just doesn't make outstanding music that warrants his headling Glasto. I'd say he's more mainstream pop than grime these days. He's the acceptable, tokenistic poster boy of grime that all those elitist, "middleclasstonbury" people can hang their hats on and say "hey, look how cutting edge we are". They should have a grime tent with loads of underground acts on - that would be a much more positive approach.

Just looking at the lineups gone by, totally escaped my attention that Metallica headlined 2014!
I was canny bust back then mind.

You ever been to Glastonbury?

I’d dare say that Glastonbury does indeed have a grime tent, it caters fully for everything else. He’s certainly not going to be the only grime artist there.
Also your opinion about making outstanding music is completely subjective. To a hell of lot of people he does, based on that theory, Ed Sheeran doesn’t make outstanding music but he headlines ?
