Food combinations you used to have when you were young

I still like Branson pickle added, when I’m eating a mild curry and boiled rice, with chips obvs.

That stems from thornhill school dinners

Just been chatting to a friend about this - started out remembering rhubarb dipped in sugar. I also used to have cucumber and onions in vinegar - must have been malt vinegar too as we wouldn't have had anything fancy.

We also used to have something Dad referred to as 'mock crab' probably to do with the colour as it was tomatoes with the skin off smashed in a pan with butter and egg added, and stirred like scrambled eggs. Usually eaten hot with bread. I don't know anyone else who ever had this.

That sounds very much like a Tunisian dish but they add fresh chilis - can't remember what it's called but it tastes brilliant.

Rich Tea biscuits with butter on.
Beef paste on cream crackers.
Tin of sausages and beans with fried bread.
Oxo cube sprinkled on buttered white bread.
Tin of beans with two fried eggs, eaten without spoon or fork, only slices of white bread.

Banana and custard, Pasta and Baked Beans - I also found out when I moved down south, having beans with shepherd's pie is not normal?? Don't think I've ever had it without beans!

dripping sarnies on white bread...

me grandad used to have condensed milk sarnies :)

How could I forget dip and bread! When dad was cooking Sunday Beef he would shout, does anyone want dip and bread and I was first in the queue. A piece of white bread soaked in the ‘juice’ from the meat and especially good with the brown crusty bits to add a bit more flavour.
