Moving BACK to the North East

It's a hard one,I'd love to go back too in many ways, but no way I'd be able to get a job. I'm not minted and I'm not a tradesman,or a solicitor/ doctor. So it's all well and good that windup merchant guy saying "modest wage",but it's not a modest wage I'd get up there,I'd get fuck all and I'm not willing to live in poverty.

I actually made the huge error of leaving London to go home and it was terrible, mostly due to jobs. Maybe one day I'll be able to work remotely and I could maybe go back, but for now I'll have to stick it out in New York.

I hear the City is a depressing place to be with the Brexit thing too, even if I went there,I probably couldn't afford to pay to live in actual London,so it would be shitty long commutes. So that's not going to happen.

Maybe one day I'll make it back to the UK at least, but can't see me going home for a long time.

I've lived in New Jersey for almost 21 years , and London for 15 years before that, but I retired last year and decided it was time to return home. I bought a season card for this season in June but the house sale over here has taken much longer than expected. But all being well I will move in to a place near Consett in November and get to see my first game this season - Wycombe Wanderers. Can't wait for a Greggs pastie.

What's it like to live in New Jersey mate?

I have an interview in January for a job in New Jersey (might be New York either mind)

I grew up in Shildon and moved away for uni at 18. I was away for 4.5 years (total of 3 in Edinburgh, 1/2 each in Spain, France and York). Moved back when it all went tits up in York and I had no money left for rent. Plan was to come back for a few months (I'd told my mam to move into a smaller house as I was so sure I wouldn't be coming back, so it was a bit poky when I did end up coming back!) but I ended up staying over 4 years before I left again, such is the pull of the region for me. I somehow managed to find a decent job, bought a house... I'm in Canada right now and plan to do more travelling once this visa expires next year (New Zealand particularly) but long-term, home is home. Absolutely loved living in Edinburgh, though; I can well see myself spending a big chunk of my adult life there if opportunity allows.

I moved away about 13 years ago and I always thought I’d move back. Now I know I won’t.

I’ve never missed the NE and after the Aged Mater shuffles off I can’t see any reason I’d even need to visit.

I have moved. But not back

I moved away in 1984 and apart from six months in 1988 recuperating at the parents house after a broken leg, other than to visit relatives, the last time being two weeks or so ago, I’ve never been back. Where I live now, I have a good lifestyle, a nice house, a decent wage so life is good.
I can never say never and being an only child there will come a time where I have to have another extended stay in Blighty, but if I’m honest, as much as I identify as coming from Sunderland, the chances of me moving back to live will be fairly close to zero.

I've been living away for the last 5 years and have developed a hankering to come back for the last 12 months or so, missing the craic, the nippy air and just the concept or feeling of being home. Wondering if there are any RTG success stories of coming home?
Good luck sir!

I'm looking forward to returning for christmas, always gives me good memories as I approach up the a19

Been away 9 years. I find three days at Christmas each year and coming up for the odd wedding is more than enough.

Won't ever move back unless for some reason I'm forced to.

Arn’t you the lad who was given the dry end of the roast on his Sunday dinner off the inlaws cos that’s what Northerners like?

:lol::lol:

That was me, that. Haven't been with her for about four years.

Her parents were tighter than a gnat's chuff.

Almost 2 years back for me now and it has worked out great. I've got to know extended family a lot more. Kids have settled. Parents get to see their grandkids and my kids get to have grandparents rather than just someone they spoke to on Skype. Live in a nice house in a nice part of Sunderland and landed on my feet with a job.
Love this part of the world tbh. There s problems but nothing that isnt outweighed by the good.

Where in Jersey? It's nice, but to me there are like 3 Jerseys . Commuter belt of NYC,outer NYC and South Jersey.

Does Hunderdon County ring a bell?

Now that's where the company is based, whether I'm going to be working there (if I get the job) I'm not sure.

It's football coaching so it could be anywhere in NJ or even in NY as far as I know.

Made me feel hungry reading that, miss ham and Pease pudding almost as much as I miss seeing the lads play regularly.

Really though? I miss getting a mince and gravy pie on a Saturday morning from Cockburn's in Silky and then going back home with me da' to scran them while watching Football Focus and then going to the match.

It's nostalgic, aye, but it's because I liked being a kid and eating pies and watching the footy with me da' – it's not a yearning for a mince pie.

Ham and pease pudding is f***ing shite.

Oh right. So south New Jersey.

I'm sure it's very nice. Not as urban as other places but lots of nice little towns and places to live. It's not that far from NYC or Philadelphia, sounds like it would be a good experience, there are loads of football academies in NJ and NY. Certainly a very different life to Europe.

How so?

I picked up the house keys in Consett yesterday afternoon and guess what? There was only a Greggs right next door.
