Anyone had hip replacement surgery?

The missus (no) had hers done last year. Out of hospital and walking with one crutch 3 days later. 6 weeks and she's back to 90%. 12 months now and it's like she never had a problem in the first place.
We do live in France though, no f***ing about with waiting and putting things off. Wham bam and in about 6 weeks from start to finish and it was a done deed.
Go for it, get it done.
PS. I do have friends / relations in the UK who've had it done and they all wish they'd been able to have it done sooner
Edit - don't let them put you off on the knee one. Again it's the sooner the better as it will only cause you problems with the other leg as time passes. It was probably that, that buggered your hip in the first place - over compensating.

My beef is i elected to have it done in Wigan, it's a world class centre of excellence. The reality is they keep knocking me back. The GP refers me to Westmoreland general and hey presto. I can have it done now.

How heavy are you?

Serious question. Father in law has had both done and is a big lad. 6ft 3 farmer who’s probably about 19/20 stone. He really struggled with the recovery.

I'm 13 stone. Not exactly fit but good for my age. Spread in the middle but can still walk the fells, I do at least five miles every day, sometimes more. Been told i need to lose a stone which will be easy.

As usual the NHS get out of jail free card, you're "overweight" so we might not be able to do it. If they got on with it and just did, like here, you'd have a lot better chance of getting the weight off.
I know it might not apply to you directly but they did that with the MIL and set her back 5 years. She was bandy by the time they got round to it.

This ploy is only being used by the staff at Wigan. I can have it tomorrow locally.

They'll use the same kit and the same procedures. It's really become a routine op nowadays. If you get the choice, the missus's surgeon said ceramic was the best option and it lasts longer. Good luck marra.

Ah, the surgeon im having to consider has developed his own technique. He uses a frame of some sort. One if the reasons im reluctant. He strikes me as being the fastest surgeon in the NWest type.
