The Clash did play in Sunderland in 1985..they were on bit of an impromptu busking tour and ended up in Gollums (Mowbray Hotel)..they were going to play the Bunker on Stockton Road but the venue didn't have a live music licence at the time.

Aye back before mobile phones
They turned up in the afternoon and popped in a few bars ,the carlton bar was another .The punks were frantically running to each others houses
Canny sure I was upstairs in the Mowbray when they were down .It was our first pub back then ,I also got to the drum club after they'd did a spot so I missed it all
My mate was sound man at the kasbah and wasn't happy with Brown hoying hi good mic on the floor

The Kazbar (sic) was what would become Eclipse, then After Dark. It isn't Dame Dot, though: George Street North.

Was Destroy in, that night. Yoz n Spen.

Me n our boy were there. Not sure who the other ten were like....
I couldn't make it, I was meeting Michael Jackson at Park Lane bus station as he was playing at Finos that night and needed an escort. The remaining Beatles were all much less hassle a couple of years later. Although George wanted a bacon sandwich in Louis but Paul fancied a pint in The Borough and words were exchanged.

I was there, walked across from Gollums to The Drum Club talking to Joe & Nick Sheppard on the way, think he was a bit over awed by it all going from The Cortinas & ending up in The Clash, don't think he took it that well when it all imploded, was more than 15 people there as well, was rammed.
