68% of Brits prefer to play a footy video game over watching a match on TV

How EA's FIFA Games Are Changing Football

Surely to God, this can't be true?!?

People (well, games players) would enjoy a video game more than the real thing?

  • Disillusion with players' high wages?
  • Long periods of tedium between interesting bits?
  • The whole thing is over quicker, appealing to those with a limited attention span?
  • What the FUCK is the world coming to?

Soz for all the questions, but this has me totally discombobulated!

Interactivity? You are involved in the video game, you have no involvement (physically or emotionally) in watching Man Utd vs Brighton.

This will have been pretty much the same throughout the last 40 year since computers became common place. The fact folk now prefer FIFA in the present age can be compared to the popularity of old home computers, donkey Kong, old consoles etc, etc. The worrying stat is 84% preferring FIFA to having a kick about.

It's not really surprising is it?

This. Huge variables involved in this question. What the game on TV matters massively.

I’m not surprised tbf, I can’t remember the last time I sat and watched a full game on the tele unless it involved SAFC.
I do this. I love watching SAFC live and on TV but don't watch a huge amount of other matches outside of international tournaments

There's that much footy on TV it doesn't really matter who you're watching if it's not your team. Brighton, Southampton, Huddersfield, Fulham, Burnley, Watford, Bournemouth, Wolves, Palace, Cardiff. There's half the greatest league in the world I couldn't care less about watching.

Fifa have very much woven the progression of the team you're playing as into the game, so it's something you're engaged in. The more time you put in the further you progress. Unlike watching a dull game between dull teams for the sake of it being on.

Depends on ehat the exact question was. If it was are you more likely to play fifa than watch football I mean... yeah. I watch sunderland once or twice a week max. I can play fifa whenever I want

Never got into playing FIFA or other computer games, even though I was into games as a child. In the olden days when you had to type commands into the computer to run a game, not just power up a console.

I never watch footy unless it's us or England. Most people are the same.
