Told the mag at work that the chronicle was running a headline 'big Sam to answer toon sos' and basically made up some shite about Rafa gone if they don't beat Fulham and Allardyce ready to step in and save them.

Said he would stop going if that happened, as couldn't watch Sams style of play  I said well you've been watching worse all season. Nee answer.

I also said that he's never been relegated whereas Rafa has, and he replied ''but Allardyce has never won European trophies':lol::lol: as if they are going to be challenging for the champs league anytime soon. Absolutely bizarre logic, but anything to defend Benitez.

This lad is in his mid fifties and season ticket for years etc but completely under the Rafa cult thing. It's strange and hilarious. I actually felt sorry for him.

Mind I still let him go on holiday tonight thinking that Allardyce is on the verge of replacing Rafa if they lose against Brighton. He's not internet savvy so he'll be scouring the papers every day during his fortnight in Malta expecting the worst.

Do the mags ever discuss and debate the managers tactics, line ups, use of subs, formations etc etc etc after the games or does all that mean jack shit.

Is it just Ashley's to blame and that's it end of story ?

Pretty much.

I said the other day to a couple of mags I know... do you think Rafa might try to win games if the fans asked him to try? They just sit there tossing themselves off over him, while he (imo) wilfully tries to lose games so he can claim he's the victim of circumstance. Look at the game against Utd the other day. They started off playing football and as soon as he was in the lead he just shit the bed.

It reminds me of what people said about Trump. In some ways, his best case scenario is to lose, but be able to claim that the system was rigged against him. In some ways, if Rafa wins, he finds himself in the unwanted position of being able to actually work within his means, rather than what he's done everywhere else, which is spend massive amounts of money, most of which turn out to be shit.

Never forget the chat about half time at the 05 CL final too, how apparently Benitez just sat there shell shocked and it was Paco Ayesteran who took the whole team talk and showed them how to be more positive etc.

And there lies the obsession with him, it’s all about past success and almost like his previous trophy wins are part of their relevance. In reality he’s a long ball merchant whose time has passed in the game.

It's a fact mate, they believe they've 'won' a world class manager as if he was a trophy.

When he said he'd stay for the supporters they truly believed it was all because of them ....

.... nothing to do with the money Ashley was paying him.

Or that there doesn’t seem to have been any other club seriously interested in him

Heaven help the manager, next season .... he'll be like whoever had to replace Alex Ferguson, doomed to fail.

The Mags will continually refer back to Rafa, for years, with sad eyes and dreams of what should've been
