Under-25s 'turning their backs on booze'

Nearly 30% of young people in England do not drink, study finds

The main reasons may be health messages getting through especially at school.

However, I think other forms of entertainment may be playing a part.

Someone I know asked his younger employees how they spent a weekend. Rather than go for a few beers, they'd go round to each other's houses to play games and perhaps a couple of times a month go to a club. Beer wasn't the main thing for them.

I get the impression the times I have been out in recent years that there seems to be very slightly fewer young men out though I still see plenty younger lasses.

Or are people telling porkies in these surveys (less likely)?
More for the single blokes then, Lasses love an older man. FACT

Allegedly, neither my son nor his friends drink. I cannot confirm nor deny this, but all evidence point that he is telling the truth. They said that they don't need alcohol to have a good time.

I grew up in a (relatively speaking) entertainment vacuum and drink helped fill that vacuum. That was further reinforced by a society in which activities such as gaming were deemed to be "for kids". Kids growing up today have so many other things to fill there time that there's really no need to get pissed.

My daughter has pretty much stated that she will never touch a drop. That worried me from a "fitting in" point of view but I now feel less worried. I just hope she grows up to enjoy the odd glass of wine with her family.

i am 33 and i haven't touched a drop in 4 years now.

In youngsters smoking, drinking, teenage pregnancies and taking drugs are declining massively and has been gradually for some years.

Was mentioned by one expert on 5 live this morning that a combination of better education at school and lives being played out on social media seemed to be at the bottom of it.

Its just not deemed cool to be off you face, getting knocked up and smoking all the time, and of course the fact that when you do some twat will video you and stick it all over social media so the whole world (and your parents) know before you even get home.

Some twat at every house party will "go live" and before you know it you are busted in the act and your dad kicks the door down realising now that you arent actually staying over at a mates house studying.:lol::lol:

Nicely summed up as to why drinking is going out of fashion.

Surely a good thing.

Indeed it is, i feel much better these days without it, than i did towards the end my time on the lash, i don't miss the hang overs or the other stuff that comes with it, and i certainly don't miss having to cue up behind some pissed bloke and his wife having a row in the middle of a club. when trying to get served.

Good stuff. Do you mind if I ask how old you are?

For me I'm trying to cut right back rather than quit totally. I still like a pint or 3 with my mates after 5-A-Side on Thursdays. I like a glass of wine over dinner if I'm out. But apart from that I could just stop drinking alcohol for the rest of the time and I intend to.

It may surprise you, but not everybody is a pisshead that spends all night arguing on facebook. Sunderland has a very deep drinking culture not shared by most of the country. Only 2 of my London mates are pissheads, one's Irish and the other is a Jock.

From experience with my ex (26), she loves a drink, and a few extras. Got quite troublesome at times and she's lost jobs over her extra-curiccular activities. I'll point out that she's Bulgarian, and it seems a major part of how they do things (drinking at least). The girl I'm dating right now (from Sunlun), likes a drink, but isn't overly bothered about it. Mind, when she is on it, it's 150%. No holding back.
