Has anyone on here just upped and walked out of their job?

My missus has had probably over 30 jobs (she’s 38 and no) and probably upped and left half of them. She just gets to a point where she thinks “fuck this” and walks out
Probably every call centre at Doxy, several clothes shops in town, and even a high rolling contracts/ finance manager position for the council. She is amazing in interviews, can bullshit her way into any job but shows them no loyalty. Ruthless as fuck
The greatest one was two touch down Hilton riverside. She said she was off to the bog, got in her car and fucked off
You’re not married to our lass are you?,got a job at the eye infirmary left at lunchtime, never went back,,same at sunderland royal got the job and didn’t even turn up on the first day cos she got a better offer at the rvi ,etc etc

I did about 18 years ago, I was a deputy manager at the time and the then area manager was taking the piss and had me working 7 days a week. cut a long story short I went into work one morning I throw a bunch of keys at him and walked. It did cause financial problems short term however it was one of the best career decisions I've ever made..

That's the girl - loads of ginger curly hair (on her head, at least)

Her dad (Brian?) was doing some PR work for the Roker Hotel only a few years ago. Nice fella, didn't like to talk about Margaret much.

Remembered the name of Simone's bf now, Rob Lowe. Little fab gobby shit.
Did they run The Cottage at Cleadon or the Old Ship in Shields?

Obviously it wouldn't be advisable to just get up and walk but has anyone on here ever felt so trapped in their role that for their own sanity they just need to pack their bag, hand their laptop over and say 'see ya later'?
I'm so close to that point at the moment but aged 40 with a very young family which involves nursery school fees and a mortgage it probably wouldn't be one of my better moves, had job interviews recently which have gone to rat-shit. Been thinking about possibly trying to find a franchise to invest in and go self employed... it's not a lot of fun to be in this situation that's for sure.
I have a friend selling a visa qualifying business here in Florida if you are interested in a total change? PM me for information if interested

Yeah mate I have thought about that but at the moment my nursery school fees tip £800 per month (the norm around here in Manchester unfortunately) and to be honest, for the hot air I've blathered about getting up and packing it in it ain't going to happen unfortunately, I'll just have to put up with the shit a while longer. Been in the company for five years like, another job interview tomorrow which would be a huge pay rise for me if it comes off but not particularly confident it will but hey-ho!

Wise words mate and to be honest it's the road I'll be taking, would LOVE to just get up and sack it off though haha!
Best of luck getting something you want mate.

theres the problem. retrain and get a job on the tools for some job satisfaction. i couldnt think of nothing worse than a dead end job staring at a laptop/pc all day.

Yes. My shitty boss whose only real talent was eating and being the daughter of an important person, deliberately lied to me about a project I needed to work on and then I got yelled at in a staff meeting by the boss's boss when it failed and made her look bad. My boss then denied all responsibility and said I was working on it by myself. I walked to my desk, packed up my shit and went over to the HR lady who loved me and told her I was leaving, and went out the door. No regrets.

I was told my boss got fired 2 weeks later.

Yep, in 2004, the last job I ever had.

Was working in Nottingham, boss was a fat little wanker who knew nothing about anything yet went on like he was an expert. Hated the prick.

It was the day of the second leg of the play offs against Palace, I would have to leave Notts around 3.30 to make it for kick off.

He wouldn't let me finish early so come three o'clock I stood up and walked out, straight into the pub next door and awaited my lift to the SOL.

Three months later I had set up on my own and have been doing the same ever since.

Aye done it twice, once when 18 me and a mate worked on the Tuxedo Royale one summer, did 6 weeks collecting glasses, mopping up sick and blood, working till dawn most weekends for buttons. Oh and had to wear dickie bow ties an'all. Lovely Friday summers night in the beer garden in The Nelson in Jarra all the lads looking forward to an evening in the sun on the piss we decided 'right, time to fuck the boat off'. We went up, told them we were done and wanted our wages (brown envelope, cash in those days). Supervisor kicked off, busiest night of the week blah blah, stuck to our guns and he coughed up. Told us if we ever went back on there the bouncers would sling us overboard. Had a great night in the Nelson.

Joined HMRC at Longbenton after doing a piss easy job in London for nigh on 20 years. Stitched me up and put me in the contact centre. Did the training for 2 months, lasted 2 weeks on the phones, (inc a couple of sickies) went in on a Friday and asked for a transfer, lino said no, i said well here's my notice. He said when can you work till, i said i'm away now and wont be back. Took the summer off and watched euro 2016, found a much better job in the September.

Much easier to do with no commitments though.

Good luck the OP whichever way you jump.
The Nelson is in hebburn, not Jarrow.

Left the same job twice in the space of 3 weeks.

Place I was working at was really well organised and staff were all good at their jobs when I first started, but then one or two experienced staff left and were replaced on the cheap with apprentices who they weren’t training properly.

Eventually more of the experienced staff started to leave cos they were sick of the extra work they were having to do, and replaced with more trainees not getting the right training. I ended up in a cycle of trying to correct the errors of others while doing my job and eventually told the main manager I was fed up and I was leaving that day.

Applied for a job with a different company and was upfront on my application saying I’d left my last place abruptly and could only give one reference from a lesser manager. Didn’t hear anything for 2 weeks and the main manager from the place I walked out of phoned me and asked me to come back. Agreed I would provided adequate training was given to the staff so ended up going back.

2 days later I get a call from the place I’d applied to after walking out and got offered an interview. Went to the interview on my day off and didn’t tell them I’d gone back to work, then another 2 days later they offered me the job with an immediate start (normally 3 months notice needed), better pay and 2.5 fewer hours a week. Next day I went into work and told the same manager I was leaving that day. Again

Are you able to take some time off? I would recommend just taking a break and figure out what you want to do, but it wouldn't be a smart move for you to just get up and quit since you have family responsibilities. Keep on the job search until you find something you really like. I will tell you that if you're feeling miserable it will come through on the interview, so prior to going into an interview work yourself into a positive attitude and energy. You will have a more productive interview and start seeing results. If you need any interview tips, send me a PM and I'll be more than willing to help out.

Cheers buddy appreciate that

Every job I had prior to my current.

I always felt that if you were dreading Monday on a Sunday night, it was time to go. I find the whole process of working soul destroying but my current job is tolerable and with 3 little ones, maybe that is enough.

Hate this work shy attitude as an employer sorry
App,y for jobs you like in future not just coz it will do for now, a stepping stone it’s not on, I’m sure you and many won’t agree, and that’s your opinion

But as and employer who likes to look after good staff (I have staff who have worked for me 20, 18 and 15 year so we must be doing summit right)

No offence though mate it’s just MY opinion

Did it in a couple of bars jobs when I was at university.

One because the manager was an absolute prick and the other because they hadn’t paid me properly for a couple of weeks. I walked into the owners office of the night club I was working at and asked if they’d sorted my wages as they were short. He said no. I hoyed him his till key and walked out.

Haven’t done it since I’ve become a grown up with a family and mortgage mind no matter how much I’ve wanted to

My point exactly

Apply for jobs you think you might actually like

Working attitude has changed since I was a kid for sure

Youguns in particular want it all now and straight away for £££££££

Walked off the line at Nissan, best thing I ever did as I f***ing hated every minute I worked there. Looking back I can't beleive I lasted 18 months but it was the best money I could earn at the time.

I think I had a moment of realisation that I would probably be there forever if I learned to switch my brain off and not hate it so I just wandered off and had a few pints in that pub over the road. Remember sitting with a tab and a pint grinning like an idiot.

The other half hit the roof initially like as we were saving for our wedding but she came around soon after. Its a short life, too short to be spending a third of it doing something you really hate.

Any chance of cutting your hours back? I worked part time for 18 month a few year ago, part of the reason I could afford to was cos it cost a few hundred less in childcare fees every month. It did make money tight, but it covered the bills and I got to spend a lot of time with the bairn I otherwise wouldn't have had.

Joined a franchise after quitting a career and have not looked back. Took a bit of a risk, but it worked out.
