Alcohol withdrawal symptoms

.

Also, @fyl2u - I like red wine too, but a bottle of it every night is not a solution to anxiety. I've been on the drinking to solve anxiety train, and I'm extremely glad to have hopped off. I know it's a hard step to take, but it's probably worth it.

I know I'm contradicting myself. I think it's a defence mechanism, trying to cover my alcoholism. I do use it for the anxiety, I know it's bad, I still do it. Maybe one day I won't. It won't be today though. :)

That's not good mind. In fact it will probably kill you.

I once read an article (maybe five or so years ago) in which a former alcohol advisor to the World Health Organisation said that he had read decades and decades of research in his time at the WHO and had come to the conclusion that there's no noticeable difference in life expectancy between someone that drinks a glass of wine every night and someone that drinks a bottle of wine every night (more than that and it starts to drop), but one thing was clear, and that was that drinking some alcohol daily was better for you than abstaining completely.

The NHS disagrees about how much the allowance should be for how much you can drink each week, but I try to aim for the bottle a night, it's just some nights I fancy a bit more when the bottle's empty. Bad Phil.

I feel your pain.

Used to get smashed at least on a weekly basis, not been much of a drinker now for almost a year and it's almost unbearable, constant restlessness / feeling the need to be on the move, being aware of a lot of things and just clarity alone makes pretty much everything annoying as fuck! Another thing is needing to feel in control of everything all the time, planning days / weeks ahead man. Might just get back on the pop
I know where you’re both coming from here , I’ve cut right down on alcohol ( try not to be a pain ) and yes I’m suffering the same as you and SF , or is this the way we’re supposed to feel ?

I’ve never been a MASSIVE drinker of alcoholic beverages but over the past 2 months I’ve consumed a lot less than normal, probably about 3 pints in total.

Over the Summer we were drinking vodka and mixers most weekends, I would sometimes have a few drinks during the week.

My evergy levels are higher and I’m thinking with more clarity - BUT this is a bit of a drawback and I feel that being slightly inebriated and having alcohol in my blood stream may have been masking problems with stress and anxiety.

Is this possible even for low levels of ‘addiction’? Or should I go back to a manageable drinking plan????

Also, sorry mate, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. I'm done talking about myself now, so please feel free to go back to what you were discussing before I so rudely interrupted. ;)

I get pissed all the time so dont suffer withdrawal symptoms but what are the symptoms? I've had the shakes before after a weeks holiday abroad but dont usually get any other symptoms apart from really fancying a pint.

Watched this video with Adrian Childs recently "Drinkers like me"....Real incite into people who drink waaaaay too much daily but function perfectly well, have good jobs etc......I wouldnt consider myself an alcoholic, I wouldnt say I was alcohol dependent but like Adrian I have a few beers on a night while watching TV, never drunk (ok odd Saturday night) but just nicely "warmed through" on a night.

Its when you tot up the units you put away in a week and compare it to the recommended level that you suddenly realise that you are not just exceeding it but exceeding the recommended months total and some in a week. Cracking watch, non judgemental, he is very frank on his consumption.

Check out the wiki page for Delirium Tremens.
Done, cheers.

So alcohol withdrawal can be treated by using prescription drugs cool. Think I'll just slowly cut down when I want to stop drinking and just listen to my body. I dont think I drink strong enough to get DT as I very rarely drink over 5% alc beverages.

While alcohol will mask the stress and anxiety while you're drinking, they will actually contribute to you feeling more stress and anxiety so it becomes counter productive.

I think your best course of action would be for you to figure out what is causing you stress and anxiety and find healthy alternatives to relieve them. Exercising and meditation can typically help with regular levels of stress and anxiety. If they are to the point that they are incapacitating you, though, then I would recommend getting professional help.
