Police constantly quoting “diminishing resources” as reason for rising crime statistics

I know of two people who got a knock on the door from comments made on social media. One in the middle of the night, 1 hour after posting. Nothing racist, just banter. This copper seems the decent sort mind.

You never get knocks on the door due to a special team going through everyones facebook like some have suggested
Its due to someone reporting it

Absolute bollocks IMO!!!!

Surely with the technological advances made over the past 20 years, internet, cctv on every street corner, DNA etc etc surely solving crime has never been so easy. What must it have been like 40 years ago when a bobby had a notebook, truncheon and handcuffs yet he still had time to patrol his beat and solve complex crimes!

Do you have time to go through all this footage?
Do you have time to do DNA tests?
Do you realise that in the time that technology has advanced for the police it's also increased for criminals?

Well I obviously don't know all the answers. But from my point of view the police were caught massively short at the back end of the 90s when the Internet took off and have never really caught up...

A lot of policing is about perception - I don't think the staff you do have are visible enough, your PR team is shocking considering I rarely hear about the good work you do and any that I do hear about is massively outweighed by negative police stories.

Loss of staff isn't the reason the crime figures have gone up - different types of crime you don't know how to handle is, in my opinion.

This is the biggest issue for me. Let people know whats happened. Even in a standard shift there is plenty of good work to advertise.
Sadly apparantly running some of the social media accounts is also up to cops as well. Lasy thing a cop wants to do after finishing 4 hours late is stick a post about it online

A visible police presence on the streets makes people feel safer and more secure. Take those away and put them behind a desk and then suddenly you don`t feel quite so comfortable walking through a town centre late at night. Also community policing has all but disappeared. At one time the local Bobby knew the rogues and could nip crime in the bud before it escalated. Now it just seems as there `s no visible deterrent at all.

Does any of that deter shitheads from breaking the law like?

It's still falling, just London had overtaken New York in murders, which is a little worrying. We're safe from people making jokes on the internet, so swings and roundabouts.
Tidied since the typo makes a difference

Just sometimes that person is from the police. See the pug trial where no member of the public had complained

40 years ago the vast majority were law abiding and the criminal was a career choice for a select few,now its a free for all .No good having cctv etc with out anyone to look at them

There are no teams that i know of that trawl through facebook. I would imagine targets would be checked who are thought to be maybe far right figures etc and rightly so but teams do not look through average joe's facebook

Beat cops still know their patch and the shit in it. Stop search powers make it slightly harder. Used to be able to spot a known shit and turn out his pockets/car according to old hats. Made the risk higher for them to be caught for drugs and going equipped offences.
A large public order incident and its a whole areas cops committed

Mrs had the Police out last week coz some little prick hoyed the stepdaughter about a bit.
They said that when he gets picked up they will charge him with assault.....they still havent picked him up!
Mrs phones them to ask whats going on and they said they have circulated his details and are looking for him.
She says that he is at work so why dont they save themselves some time and just go there and get him straight away????

Much harder since you can't beat a confession out of someone eh?

ECHR does have it’s drawbacks

It’s not that simple though. Depending where he works and what level of assault there may be no power of entry onto the premises, nicking someone at work is high up on breach of private life under HRA which will need to be considered, are there even sufficient grounds under code G of PACE to actually nick him in the first place?

This was a nobody who had not been politically involved. In this case my best guess would be a single copper who got offended on everyone's behalf. He's by no means far right, he's got a hammer and sickle tattoo on his chest for one.

If there are no teams, who checks on these people?
