Has anyone on here just upped and walked out of their job?

Aye. Ten minutes before a 12 hour nightshift (Thursday night last shift) was about to start I had an argument with one of the company directors. During this discussion he said ‘fuck off man I’m the boss’ so I told him no fucker is my boss with an attitude like that, picked me toolbox up and walked out. He’s not working now he has alcohol problems and possibly did then which would explain his arsehole behaviour.

We take on apprentices all the time, promise them "Business Experience" but end up bunging them in the sales department with targets.

They get super stressed and they walk out all the time. Management doesn't care, just get more in next year.

When you're 18, living at home and your working for pocket money, it's easy just to wrap in the job. I wouldn't let my kids
suffer in stress every day. Nothing wrong with hard work and responsibility, but when your boss is a incompetent slimeball
who hides behind stats, printouts and the constant threat of a sacking, it's enough to screw you up for life.

Worked in the SoL kiosks after leaving school. Actually enjoyed it, mostly other people the same age who it was also a first job for and it was a good laugh sometimes. Was there a few month before it got to the point the usual suspects were taking the piss every time, sat about doing nowt, and the supervisor would let them because it was easier to just ask someone else to do stuff. I'd been cleaning counters or something while some daft twat sat on his arse and the supervisor tells me to start mopping the floor. I says "no, he's doing nowt", then she starts having a go at me.

Fuck that, I went to the office and complained about her to her boss, said I was packing in, then got escorted from the ground.

Completely different situation like 'cos it was only £13 a fortnight and my mam covered the shortfall.

Actually, used to work at the Marsden Grotto when I was at Uni.

The daughter of the owners used to run the bar (Simone?) and her boyfriend (he shared his name with a Hollywood actor but can't recall which one) was on the payroll.
Quelle surprise, he did fuck all on his shift.
I mentioned it, got told to like it or lump it.
So, I lumped it!

On the way out, because I was no longer staff - the twat in the lift tried to charge me for the journey up!

Simone Murphy?
Her parents were managing the Barnes when I worked there. The missus died of cirrhosis IIRC. Constantly lashed. They used to call her ‘Lager Legs’. At Chucky out time she used to stand there with tears rolling down her cheeks at all the wasted beer in half empty glasses as everyone had supped up and nashed off down the town.

Aye. Walked out of a job after two months as the boss was a nightmare and the agency was in complete dissaray. I also wasn't sleeping etc. I just left at the usual time and didn't come in the next day (which happened to be payday anyway).

I did have about three months worth of salary in savings though so I could afford to do it. I got another job two months later and didn't tell them about that job. I just said I'd gone backpacking around Europe for a couple of months.

That's the girl - loads of ginger curly hair (on her head, at least)

Her dad (Brian?) was doing some PR work for the Roker Hotel only a few years ago. Nice fella, didn't like to talk about Margaret much.

Remembered the name of Simone's bf now, Rob Lowe. Little fab gobby shit.

My missus has had probably over 30 jobs (she’s 38 and no) and probably upped and left half of them. She just gets to a point where she thinks “fuck this” and walks out
Probably every call centre at Doxy, several clothes shops in town, and even a high rolling contracts/ finance manager position for the council. She is amazing in interviews, can bullshit her way into any job but shows them no loyalty. Ruthless as fuck
The greatest one was two touch down Hilton riverside. She said she was off to the bog, got in her car and fucked off
Not being funny but she sounds like a nightmare.

Aye kinda. Call centre at Doxy about 6 years ago, I was going through a rough time and they had just changed shifts to some god awful rota. I went to see the doc and he put me on the sick for two weeks, during which time I decided I had enough and emailed HR my resignation. They kept paying me for three months after that until they sent me a letter inviting me for a disciplinary hearing for none attendance. Sent them a copy of my resignation email expecting a reply to pay back what they paid me, but I just got my P45 in the post and never heard from them since. I still wonder how I managed to go three months without hearing from anybody.

This. People have said things to me because I seem to change jobs every 2 years, but at least I’ve climbed the career ladder with every move and increased my salary much faster than I would have sitting in the same place waiting for a promoted post to come up.

My current job is the one I’ve spent most time in since I qualified as an accountant and ironically it’s the only one I’ve not enjoyed.

:lol::lol:

Do you get worried she's done a runner if she has having a bit shite?

Only once, Sport Soccer in town. Was looking after upstairs by myself, was struggling, my shift had ended about half an hour earlier.

One of the floor managers started going through me as someone had tried to nick something said I was on my todd dealing with another customer and didn't see it. He went at it a bit, I pointed out my shift had been over for a while, he went "what do you want, a medal" I walked out and didn't go back.

Feel for you mate, i'm getting to that point too but as i'm in the process of re-building my life following a break up it'd probably be the worst thing i could do atm. My wage is all i have and it'd be a long time in a new job before i'm earning this level of money again (not that it's an earth shattering amount at all).

Obviously it wouldn't be advisable to just get up and walk but has anyone on here ever felt so trapped in their role that for their own sanity they just need to pack their bag, hand their laptop over and say 'see ya later'?
I'm so close to that point at the moment but aged 40 with a very young family which involves nursery school fees and a mortgage it probably wouldn't be one of my better moves, had job interviews recently which have gone to rat-shit. Been thinking about possibly trying to find a franchise to invest in and go self employed... it's not a lot of fun to be in this situation that's for sure.
Did it when I was exactly your age (40) from a very highly paid board level job without a penny behind me. Just knew I had to for my sanity, fortunately the missus understood and I spent a few years in a couple of employed positions before taking the plunge and starting out myself. Been a few lean years along the way including when I got hit with a £250k bad debt but it was the best thing I ever did, saved my sanity and wish I'd had the courage to do it years earlier.

I don't blame anyone who walked out at 2touch. I was there for 2 weeks while waiting for my industry placement to start for uni. 1st week was classroom training which was abysmal. Then second week listening in on the phones on the floor and that was just excruciating. I only lasted more than the 1st week due to knowing when I was starting the placement. Didn't turn up on the Monday and they were absolutely fuming. Wankers.

I also once got sent by an Agency to Nissan. Told to turn up at 6pm or something. No idea what it was for and I was 18yr old and a bit we behind the ears. Got there to find it was cleaning the floors. Bloke said I did really well and could get to use the machine the next day. Didn't go back.

Only time I've ever upped and walked out mid shift was in Sydney working for a company who do the phone calls for charities trying to get you to sign up to donate. 1st campaign was all people who had donated previously so was fine. But then they asked me to cold call and that was just f***ing horrendous. After 2 hours I just said it's not for me and walked.
