I know I'm huuuugely splitting hairs here but the setting up of religions and the desire of those religions to exert influence and control over people is the same as the other political motivations that cause conflict.

Saying that, I do basically agree. Islam is the same, it comes down to power and control.

It's why people set up the religions that is interesting. Societies need a structure and some rules. Easiest way to invoke those rules is to say the are eternal truths coming from up high.

We have moved on a bit with Locke and Hume etc but I think all conflict is about resources power and control and religion is just another way of controlling.

I like it when we agree:lol:

No he shouldn't. It's not a crime. Not serving them because they are gay is mind and rightly so.
I didn't say it was a crime marra. Just because something isn't a crime doesn't mean you should do it, hell I don't think something being a crime is reason enough not to do sonething.

But they weren't.

The would have had any other cake they wished.

But the baker has a right to not bake something he found offensive.

Obviously people also have the right not to use a shop run by bigots. Hopefully they will see their sales dwindle in future.

Unless it's blatantly illegal or likely to cause harm he should. If you are a printer you probably get jobs where you are creating things you don't personally agree with all of the time.
So could I go into a bakers run by a gay man/woman/couple and ask for...
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Or even...

(Leviticus 18:22) or (Leviticus 20:13) if you prefer their catalogue numbers...

and demand that they put it on the icing in shocking pink because after all those phrases are not illegal and are freely available for anyone to read in most books shops in the land?

Yes, why the fuck not.

Also ridiculous they didn't make the cake because of their religious beliefs.

This is one of those cases when both sides are dicks.
Not really, it was described in court as a political statement. What if it had been a right wing or other extreme statement and they refused to make it?

Might just be splitting hairs there. Tough one to call.

Not really, they didn't refuse serving the customer. It was the pro homosexual comment they added to the cake they didn't like. They said they'd do the same for heterosexual couples, story outta nothing imho.
