It’s a main road with lots of people walking directly past people’s front rooms. A large number of those closed curtains are white, British people. It really isn’t an issue.
It’s scruffy as owt mate .

Regardless of creed or colour it’s only ever done by tramps ,in tramp areas .

Not one person on my estate has their curtains closed all day every day.

In the example you continuously use, it’s done by people who live on busy roads with large numbers of people walking within inches of their front rooms and bedrooms. Some will be tramps, some won’t.

Leave it with me .

Twenty odd year ago I lived opposite the hospital off Chester Road,at the time it was a decent well looked after area where people took pride in their homes, now there's a large amount of Asians living in that area it's an absolute shithole. That's not being racist,it's a fact.
Then again it could be just a coincidence.

I live in Eden Vale and there is undoubtably a problem with litter, and I always pull people up on it if I see them dropping rubbish all over. This is a problem with Sunderland though, it’s the dirtiest place I’ve ever lived, and needs to be addressed, I believe, at primary school level with a campaign aimed at kids teaching them why they should never be litter bugs. This would hopefully have a knock-in effect when kids pull their parents up if they see them littering. Another major factor is how windy it is in Sunderland as that causes havoc with litter, blowing it all over and generally making the place look a tip.

I have been back for a couple of weeks after not being in Sunderland for a couple of years and I do agree that there seems to be far too much litter and rubbish about, quite sad really people really should take more pride in their town.

My children do but they have a blood disorder which means they can't be in direct sunlight. Hope this okay and if that makes them tramps then So be it. Personally I don't judge everyone that does something. You do I guess, but each to their own.

Im with gilly on the curtains mind.

Also seem to notice that most have old fashioned nets instead of blinds.

Something not right about it.

It’s mental isn’t it. Why do people in Sunderland have no pride in the cleanliness of their town ? Probably the only place in England where you’ll still see people lobbing their rubbish out of car windows and letting their dogs shit everywhere without picking it up.

I very much doubt that. And you are going on as if every single person in Sunderland does that.

FWIW, I resided off Hylton Road about 20 years back for about 18 months.

There were two standout negative experiences, both happened on St Marks Rd. First up, had stones hoyed at me by the local youths for "being a student". Aye, hilarious.
Secondly, one of my pals had mates up from middle England and they got brayed all over "for not being from Sunderland" when they were walking back from a house party. Nice.

I also recall that there were several incidents on the cycle path (is that now the metro line???) involving students from The Forge halls being mugged or assaulted. The path was right behind St Marks Road. I never saw it myself, just whispers.

I haven't been back to the area apart from passing through to access the hospital. Even then that was 6 or 7 years ago.

I can only speak as I find, but in my brief time in the area, my concern certainly didn't lie with people shutting their curtains.
It was alright apart from the above, but enough to put me off living there.

I don’t think it’s every single person at all. Just a higher proportion than other areas. I find it strange given how proud Sunderland people are that they are so far behind the rest of the country in this respect. It’s a real shame.

So you think Sunderland is the only place in England that people litter and some don't pick their dogs shite up?

No, just the worst. The north east in general lags behind the rest of the country in this respect.
You said it's probably the only place in England that does it, not the worst. You want to make your mind up mate. It's certainly not the worst either by a long way.

I agree with you. Having lived in the North West, South East and obviously the North East I'd say Sunderland was the worst place I've been too for litter. There's far bigger shitholes than Sunderland but it's easily top when it comes to rubbish blowing around. It only seems to be bad in the town centre though, can't say I've noticed it in any of the other areas.

The stadium also seems bad for it on match days, noticeably worse than any other grounds.
