Seaburn developments

Seems to be quite a bit of controversy about it. Mostly about it being overdeveloped. Although the plans look modest there's opposition. It's not as if a Vegas style casino or Manhattan style tower block is planned.
Suppose whenever there's anything remotely ambitious planned in Sunderland there's no shortage people restricting it's growth. The city needs some overdevelopment.......after decades of underdevelopment.

I think the issue they have is they want it to have leisure facilities to attract people to the area. The plans are for mostly housing including flats over 3-5 floors overlooking the beach which would block the sun on the beach fairly early.

I think they have some merit to what they saying but the facilities they want need to be paid for so some housing to do that is going to be required,

There are no plans for 5 storey flats , I think the plans look a great compromise between housing and open green space - the locals seem to think the current situation is preferable but in 15 years I’ve never seen anyone enjoying the green space between dykelamds and Morrison’s except the travelling community -
They’d had you believe that patch was full of picnickers and family generally frolicking.

Tbf, the NIMBY locals are a nightmare. They will moan about any development
They do seem to be very vociferous.

Mind, only Sunderland Council could think putting empty shipping containers on a derelict fairground site is going to be a great thing.

There's something not wired up properly in the collective brains inhabiting the civic centre. Maybe a little opposition isn't a bad thing to keep them on their toes.

The shipping container thing was shelved wasn’t it ? It’s worked in Gateshead so done right could’ve been a good thing but half heartedly isn’t good enough - the 3 weeks of food festival either side of air show was shambolic

Gateshead Quayside is a post industrial landscape, and an established eating and drinking location.

A derelict seaside funfair is sure as hell not that. You'd be lucky to get anyone at all visit it.

Good they've shelved it.

It's an absolute tip at the minute.

Save the lovely works to the promenade, Seaburn is the worst it's been in my lifetime.

You would think, therefore, that literally anything can only be an improvement.

But Siglion and Sunderland Council are capable of botching up anything and everything.
It’s much better than it was 10 or 20 years ago.

A derelict leisure centre, a long abandoned fun fair, a tatty supermarket and an unkempt park.

Bar the promenade which has been tidied up and the beautiful beach and the whole area has been allowed to become a complete shit hole.

Come to Seaburn.

Now there's an idea, not sure Monaco will be happy if we have a casino and a marina mind.

I agree , I think the concern is that the little enclaves of seafielda and corned beef island will become part of the general estate and the new houses will be a lot meow desirable
Here she is...
