England v India 4th Test

Poor shot that. Sums up the problems in the England Top Order - slashing at wide deliveries when the ball is still hard. Nonsense

England seem completely muddled in their thinking when it comes to team selection - chopping and changing the side every test, messing about with the batting order mid-match.
Ed Smith seems as clueless as the last lot of selectors.

It's where he's batted most of his career.

I like it.
So do I, but why not bat him there in the 1st innings? He plays at 3 for Worcs, Root doesn't like batting at 3 so it seems like a no-brainer

3.Ali,
4.Root
5.Bairstow
6.Stokes
7.Buttler

looks a better middle order

Better late than never I suppose. They've been criticised for being inflexible in the past and making the same mistakes over again, so change it. And it puts Root and Stokes back to where they belong.

Might not work but I like the move.

I don't disagree with it, I just think making that move mid-match makes us look like we don't know our best line up
I think from the positive side and it is chucking a curve-ball to India. Also it tells Moeen that they back his batting to be at number 3,
