Because his confidence was shot. He went back to county cricket regained his confidence, started bowling well, scoring runs and earned a recall. Why was Ali dropped again?
Being removed from the limelight was what he needed imo.

No offence but why is Rashid in the team?
He's had a couple of excellent knocks for Worcs during his time off as well.Because his confidence was shot. He went back to county cricket regained his confidence, started bowling well, scoring runs and earned a recall.

Bowling Kohli with a worldy in the ODIs.
This partnership is concerning...
Because he was piss poor in Australia
With respect I think you have totally taken out of context what I said.
Nobody has suggested the ball flying to ropes every delivery and of course there is a balance to be had at the top of the order.
However there is clear difference between boring the oppostition and taking the game to them.
Probably the most successful test opener in the last few years has been David Warner a attacking opener.
Both the best test cricket sides of all time we're both attacking sides Australia and West Indies, in fact the great Australian side changed the face of test cricket for the better, scoring at a quicker rate, and both Matthew Hayden and Gordon Greenidge were not exactly known for boring the opppostion , or their good leave! so disagree with that wins test matches.
Even in that great 2005 series we fought fire with fire scoring over 400 in a day in one of the test matches in that series.
Therefore can't really see this fascination with boring the opppostion really can't, and absolutely think attacking cricket is more entertaining and can win test matches and what's more it's a fair opinion to have, so your statement about me having the attention of a gold fish and children been entertained is both uncalled for and unnecessary!
Ali should be our number 1 spinner in England, and Leach should be abroad
There's a fair few who weren't dropped who share that distinction.
With respect, you can talk about Warner, Sehwag, Hayden and all the other attacking openers you like - England is the toughest place in the world, bar none, to be an opener. And that's where we play at least 50 per cent of our tests.
I'm all for playing Bairstow up there myself - I think he's the best opener in ODI cricket at the moment and we should look at it. But I think he'd most likely struggle at home, as Warner has, as Sehwag did and even as Hayden did when we bowled well at him. Opening in England requires those skilful blocking and leaving attributes, it really does.
Agree.
Done well to fight their way back into the game, England should be batting with a 50 run lead though ;This is shite man, 40 runs in the last 10 overs, wides, byes. Are we doing our usual trick of trying to avoid batting tonight?
Not ruthless enough?Getting a bit painful this, happens time and time again under Root.
