Jane Eyre. Every teenage girl should read it. Actually so should every teenage boy.

NW is the most recent. Pleasantly surprised. Zadie Smith can write a bit.

I prefer reading the comments on here rather than reading novels. I did start to read a novel but my brain power couldn't handle it so I stopped reading after about 20 pages the book was some crap about a private eye travelling to the far east or something like that, I find real life more interesting than that dreamed up rubbish.

So uncouth! Go find yourself a Where’s Wally or a pop-up book to enjoy.

Judging by your grammar in the initial post, it’s not me that the ‘wally’.

Anyway, my comment was just in jest, hope no offence was taken.
No probs mate I get paid to have good grammar so I aint putting that effort in on here my basic typing skills will suffice. No offence taken I don't mean to cause offense either I'm just being honest about my book reading skills.

The first novel-length book I read was probably something by Terry Pratchett or Roald Dahl.
The last one I finished was The Bridge by Iain Banks.

The first that wasn't a school task, or the first at all?

First I chose I think was James Herbert - The Rats.

First at school... can't remember for sure but possibly Lord Of The Flies?

First one I remember was Catch22. We must have read some awful shite at school in about 1964, and when I complained the young supply teacher lent me his (then new-ish) paperback copy. I was blown away and became a regular reader. Much prefer it to the telly! I average about 60 novels a year these days. (I keep a list)
Currently reading 'New Grub Street' by George Gissing. Just read 'Damned' by Chuck Palahniuk.

Jane Eyre for me too. I was 14 and off school with cold and my friend pushed it through the letterbox for me. I still remember sobbing and coughing at the end.

Just re-read this. A good summery read. The print was horrendously small.
