I'm suggesting it as a long term strategy not an edict from next season. .Give plenty of notice and advise clubs to get their strategy for junior development going. It may even be an idea to then incentivise the game so contributions from young players gain extra batting or bowling points or disincentivise adult only teams (not saying they can't play but they shouldn't expect to compete level for level with those bringing through youth) Something has to happen to get kids in and keep them or the game dies.

It’s not the notice clubs need and it’s not the clubs fault either.

It’s the fact kids are too lazy these days and would rather play on PlayStations or iPads and the fact which has already been mentioned that youth football now goes on all year.

Its not that clubs are been too lazy it’s the fact kids are too lazy!!

Putting pressure on already struggling clubs is not the way to go and relegating teams because kids are too lazy to participate in cricket nowadays is unfair on them clubs imo

I must admit across the piece they don't seem to have the desire mine had 20 years ago. Despite that those that are keen need catching or the game will wither.

I totally get your point mate but there simply isn’t the interest!

On this thread there has been talk about the right balance of a second team, also certain juniors and etc etc, when unfortunately the bottom line is that clubs are lucky to get a second team out at all and it’s getting worse.

Seems like that is true. Before anyone slates the NEPL and trolls out the usual nonsense, the ECB provide funding to the NEPL. This funding is only given if member clubs in the league meet the criteria. In the ECBs eyes, clubmark is an important 'must have' for all member clubs of ECB Premier Leagues nationwide. Although it takes a little bit of work, not many clubs have difficulty obtaining clubmark so there is only one place to lay the blame on this one, in my opinion.

Can't think this is true

Clubmark criteria are not that difficult to meet am sure a club of Brandon's standing would have the resources to get this corrected

Where has this come from ?

@brandon can you shed any light ?
There was an NEPL meeting last night to discuss the issue.

Brandon had been reminded and warned about it, then given a final deadline of 31st July to get it sorted. By the sounds of it, an individual who was trusted to do the work let the club down even though they wouldn't have had a problem in meeting the requirements.

Dear me

What a mess

Club mark is a good thing it's provides a framework for clubs to provide a well organised safe facility

Club mark is a good thing it's provides a framework for clubs to provide a well organised safe facility

How many instances of clubs providing a unsafe environment were reported before clubmark?

How did clubs manage before clubmark?

Were clubs not organised and providing a structured framework before clubmark?

For starters people like Michael Strange who coached kids at clubs such as Gateshead Fell and Bill Quay got away with murder......whilst clubmark won’t cease this type of behaviour entirely hopefully the chances of it happening again are reduced with clubmark as clubs are more accountable to do relevant checks

Keep your hair on man

Didn't say good practice wasn't in place only that it's a good thing for making sure a club covers a lot of key things working through it with our club is good for developing systems. I personally see it as a good thing

That better for you ?

My point been mate after reading a lot of your posts, I think it’s fair to say that you and your club are more than responsible enough to run your club in the right way and have the correct framework in place whether your club has clubmark or not!

It’s just a title that’s all it is!

Relevant checks should be made by any responsible club anyway don’t you think?

Durham Academy also stopped playing Saturday league cricket and have resigned from NEPL.
Strange decision that. The academy has been producing players as well as any other county over the length of the NEPL so don't know why they'd change something that works

Academy withdrawing from the NEPL as well from next season. Players better suited to develop at own clubs according to statement.
At least one other NEPL club possibly looking to play elsewhere as well so could be as many as 4 new teams needed o fill the gaps. Will be major knock effects with these decisions.

I would assume the winners of both TSL and DSL will be granted a place if they meet the criteria. The other 1 or 2 places will be on invite....interesting times.

Where will Brandon go down to? DSL 1 or start from the bottom
