Boris Johnson faces inquiry over racist comments

I’m a realist. Nobody is free to wear what they want, but I’d love for all women to be able to wear what we as a liberal western society deem to be acceptable.

That isn’t possible when you have women forced to wear a burka by the conservative version of Islam that dominates their life.

The best possible solution for now is to ban the burka. Yes, it’s telling women what to wear, but to a infinitely smaller degree:

Conservative Islam

What can women wear:

Burka

What women can’t wear:

anything else

Ideal Liberal Western democracy

What can women wear:

Loads of things

What women can’t wear:

Burka
This is a big concern and there is no room for oppression in our society. This does give a strong argument to ban the Burka but raises many other issues like being oppressive to women who chose to wear the Burka and I would be concerned that some women will become prisoners in their own home by dominate husbands or family members. It's a tricky issue to tackle.

Not something for Boris Johnson, then?

I think he has looked at how thing panned out for Trump with his methods to get into power and thought 'I'm having a bit of that approach'.
Aye. Boris had a meet with that Bannon twat recently, didn't he? This "controversy" is probably exactly what you say, a deliberate ploy by Johnson to keep himself front and centre even if it means cynically spouting shite he doesn't even believe.

I'm convinced this bollocks won't play as well here as it does in the US, but nothing surprises me anymore.

Anyway, it seems he has broken some sort of parliamentary code of conduct by taking up new employment so soon after leaving the cabinet (something like that, I wasn't really paying attention), but that doesn't matter as normal rules don't apply to Boris.

As much as I don't like his stance on many issues, in this case he's cracked a crappy pub joke. I agree with Rowan Atkinson here.

The reaction from the PC lobby is actually making the situation worse. Move on, nothing to see here.

As much as I'm a Remainer, I do wonder if this being used as an excuse to neutralise a key Brexiteer.

Yes.;) Play up to the Nationalist and Popularist vote, it worked with the 'Rust Belt' it may work with the working and lower class here? Cling on to his conservative supporters and it would add up to a lot of votes for him. It won't play as well but labour are ineffective at the moment, the Tory party in a shambles, so Boris has plenty to capitalise on.
Oh and he has daft hair also, that many people warm to for it's comedic effect.

I don't see much being done to tackle the issues of homophobia, misogyny and racism in the Muslim community. They seem to have a get out of jail free card unlike the rest of us.

Nail on the head.

Lefties love these causes, rightly so if they do over egg the pudding a bit but strangely say little or nothing about Muslim countries and individuals here and abroad having frankly backward views on all 3 issues.

Bad form totally for white people to use the term. The article in the Guardian was written by a Muslim.

Dear me, so your view is its ok for a Muslim to make fun of Muslim women, but not a white man ? That is to say minorities are able to dictate to the majority what they can say or write ?

Don't agree with that. Most lefties I know, and the ones who post on here, seem appalled by the worst countries and individuals waging all sorts of oppression in the name of Islam.

Mind, they also get exercised by otherwise, er, unreconstructed people who generally hate the "PC brigade" then suddenly turn into great defenders of women's and gay rights when it's the Muslims who are being sexist and homophobic.
