Boris Johnson faces inquiry over racist comments

He's achieved little to nothing.

Not sure about that. He's made himself front page news for several consecutive days despite being a backbench mp during a parliamentary recess. Whatever the outcome, to many people he'll come out of this looking like a victim being oppressed for 'telling it like it is'/'saying what we're all thinking' thus increasing his support/popularity among said people.

In terms of his usual aims he's achieving exactly what he set out to do.

Just like Stephen Yaxley f***ing Lennon.

Without the gratuitous insensitivity the article itself wasn't too controversial and was actually a reasonable discussion piece. It would have gone unnoticed. Totally passed most people by, unless you read the Telegraph. It would definitely, without a scintilla of doubt, NOT have appealed to the non-telegraph reading audience who are supportive and cheering of his 'letterbox, bank robber and ridiculous' jibes.

Which makes me think it was entirely intentional, self serving, manipulatively populist and (even more) disgraceful.

Agree.

My concern about Boris is he has a history of these clumsy remarks about people's race which increasingly looks like a dog whistle to the more extreme members of our society.

I think the burka is a load of shite, oppressive to women, not what the Koran intended at all and a classic example of specific tribal goatfuckers giving your basic average Muslim a bad name.

If I were a politician looking to make an intelligent statement in public about this however, and hoping to find a solution, I might choose my words more carefully than the above. Especially if, say, my most recent cabinet post was in charge of the nation's f***ing DIPLOMACY

Can’t see any issue with what he said. It’s a ridiculous item of clothing that shouldn’t be worn. Seen a bloke the other day in these massive white trousers, sandals and a green bomber jacket. Ffs that doesn’t go.

Lots of people may not believe that his comments were 'racist' and in the context of the entire article weren't that serious

Meh

They were unnecessarily rude, insensitive and unbecoming of an elected official - let alone someone who has obvious ambitions to higher office.

I don't think he was purposely islamaphobic , he was actually defending the right of people to wear a Burka or whatever, he was definitely insensitive and ill advised in his comments

I'm happy that you agree with me that he's a clown-shoe wearing utter twat.
