The best I have done is about 7mins 45s they used to have a competition in the Nottingham ymca gym and the best times were about 7:15.

That’s a very good 2k time. The only PB of mine I remember is a 1.24 for 500m

That’s a fast 500 m !!
To get under 2k u need to be under 1.45 min for 500 meters x 4
it’s something to build up to I used the rerow feature on the concept machine allows u to race against your last effort so gives u incentive to beat your self display has 2 boats your current row and your last row so u keep improving

I’d recommend having a look on the concept2 website for tutorial on proper technique. Has an explanation and a short video demonstrating it, broken down into constituent parts. Could be the difference between straining or suffering an injury. I’d use them occasionally over the years without much thought. Worked with a guy who was well into it. He competes regularly in Ireland, GB and Europe in the indoor rowing competitions. Have me a bit of coaching. Made a world of difference to my times amd no longer suffer some of the aches and twinges I’d previously gotten after a session.

Technique from concept website.

When I do it there’s just a blur of sweat, arms and legs like a shark wrestling with a seal.

Cheers for providing the link there mate. Computer numpty so couldn’t figure that out! Depending on my own levels of energy, fatigue or just general interest i vary between shark wrestling a seal to a drunken whale trying to shag one :)

 I just try to bend my knees only after my hands have gone past them. I’ll check what I’m doing on the rower later this week.

That’s pretty much the basics as I was coached. Drive with the legs, don’t pull til hands past the knees. Then on the return, hands past the knees before bending the legs. Oh, and keep the elbows tucked. Used to get shouts of “chicken wings!!” from my mate when he was coaching my technique :). Funnily enough my 500m split times dropped for a month or two after I’d improved the technique. Soon returned though. Seems that initially I could row quick, just very badly!

Has anyone got a Concept 2 at home? Tempted to get one but don't want to spend £900 on (another) clothes-horse. A bit tight for space as well. Suppose a could just do one at the gym (don't use the gym atm although it's on me membership.)
