One type of call centre speak that irritates me inordinately is the use of he word ‘yourself’ when the word ‘you’ is what’s intended. My belief is that it’s a misguided attempt to be polite or more formal or something.

Example: “is there anything else I can do for yourself?”

completely agree. had a lass i used to work with use this all the time

'when yourself sent that email to myself last week'

Seriously though, what got you stuck on the left right thing?
It was in the internet militants thread, a couple of posters posted left this and right that in a political manner and it quite annoyed me as I didn't know what they were talking about and I didn't think the thread was about politics so I looked up what left and right mean and I still don't know or understand. It totally threw me when someone else came on the thread asking for help about using the site or something like that so I pretended I was a mod and he believed me, I got a warning as I have been seen to mimic mods before and it probably pisses the mods off well I know it does because I almost totally derailed a thread and a mod had to step in to shut me up as havoc was already ensuing and the mod had to take time out to tidy up my mess.
As I got the warning coupled with not understanding what left & right is, it stuck in my mind.

basically if you are a decent person, with an ounce of dignity and empathy, you are slightly left of centre.

if you are a selfish, greedy or racist arsehole, you are on the right
Thank you. So right is wrong and left is right.

Ok.

Left is usually seen as communism and socialism. Both are based on the idea of everyone sharing their money, sometimes meaning that people don't own anything, they're owned collectively and that the state owns and runs businesses.

The right quite often are associated, at the extreme, with a national or ethnic identity.

It's easier,I think, to view it as more of a horseshoe. As you get further left or right, the curve upward represents more authoritarian ideals. It's a horsehoe as you'll find the extreme left and right will want to fight for "the people". Those who disagree with their ideals won't be seen as "the people" and end up in a gulag/death camp.

Towards the centre, you'll find capitalists and libertarians. Lower down you'll tend to find less state intervention/control.

I'm no political expert but hopefully that makes some sense. I'm sure there's plenty of more intellectual folk who can explain this better, but you'll probably hear from some wankers first.

I'm confused again.
