No Mans Sky - NEXT Update

Probably won't dust off my copy but I respect Hello Games for putting their heads down and expanding the game into something that closely develops what was promised.

I thought NMS was a canny little game, wasn't worth the £40 I spent on it though.

I think the hype got away from them - hopefully this is the game they wanted to put out - agree it wasnt finished on release but will give it a go - i dont play that much anymore but this one had me hooked from the minute it was announced - the premise was awesome.

Hope it doesnt just turn into PvP only though.

Team up with a small team of friends and explore the universe together, or be joined by random travelers. You can help friends to stay alive, or prey on others to survive. You can build tiny shelters or complex colonies that are shared for all players. Fight as a pirate or a wingman in epic space battles with friends and enemies. Race exocraft across weird alien terrains, creating race tracks and trails to share online. The character customisation allows you to personalise your appearance.

That's me sold. I loved the idea of the game but sold it after the travesty of the original release. I need to try and be shrewd and find a cheap copy before this update cos no doubt the price will go up. @Snappy fancy it?

Installed the update last night - its like a different game - visuals improved etc (i didnt play any of the other updates)

Not come across any other players as yet but then i'm only on my second planet and still re-learning how to play the game.

its always worth reminding yourself that No Man's Sky was made by 16 people, got slated to fuck for missing features that were promised (rightly so) but Activision have thousands working on Call of Duty Games and they are unabashedly shit from the offset yet very little hate for the formulaic barebones structure...plenty for the fact it's a shameless cash grab every year.

Hello games built a game as vast as they did with 16 people, even if it was unfinished and shit at launch, the constant updating, the after sales support and the fact they strove to make a game that ultimately disappointed many but never gave up on it is quite laudable in the same year where Bioware essentially abandoned Mass Effect Andromeda because it didn't hit sales targets.

Good post. Couldn't agree more.

Never played the original as it didn't seem to live up to the hype. I've watched a few live streams and it looks like they've put a lot of graft in for the update. Just out of interest. Is the game just multiplayer? And with the new patch if you are just exploring on your own, can other players kill you etc?

I imagine you'll find it difficult to come across anyone playing accidentally given the size of the game.

Quite remarkable really. Whilst they fell short on release they've worked hard to provide the game that people thought they were getting two years ago. When you think of the number of early access games that small developers just abandon I think it's worthy of praise what Hello Games have now done. Further to that and like you said regarding triple A developers who have hundreds, sometimes thousands of people working on a game that would give up and wouldn't give a shit. It really is testament to this tiny team.

Yes the game is still a niche and people will assume it's boring and repetitive (what game doesn't, eventually) but regardless of that it's refreshing to see a developer suck it up and accept they got it wrong.

In all honesty i think the hype train took this game away from them - Sony turned up the hype on them and i think they just didnt have all the things ready in time for release - i enjoyed it on release - the thing that got me was the tech behind it which i thought was amazing - especially for a team of 16 as you say.

I remember watching that demo Sean Murray did on stage where he brought up the galactic map and zoomed out to show the true scale of the game - i was hooked then.

Full credit to the devs for sticking with this and releasing DLC instead of making a NMS2.

They've improved it from the last time i played it, apparently the portals work now.

The update has provided a decent amount of different things to do tbf.

Such as what mate? I was thinking of getting this but the reviews have suggested practically every planet is the same apart from they have different sized creatures snd the plants etc. are different colours. What's so good about it? What keeps you wanting to go back for more?
