Socks with sandals

I'd never heard the term "sliders" prior to this thread.
It seems to have started this year. I’d never known them as anything but slip-ons, or even flip-flops, although not the proper flip-flops that are held on by your toes. Now the term is everywhere as if it has always been a thing. It hasn’t.

I'd have them down as flip flops like.

I've heard the other flips flops - which go between your toes - being called 'thongs', but this was mainly used by people who had been to Australia and wanted everyone to know it.

Footballers have been knocking about training and if you catch interviews with them, for years.

The Adidas slip-flops from Dads' wardrobes in the 90s.

Once frowned upon and having been embarrassed by our father's doing it lads of my generation simply don't do it.

However seems to be much more common place now. Seen a few normal looking lads sporting the combo.

Is it acceptable again amongst the young?

Death's too good for that lot.

Apparently called sliders now? WTF?

Round the pool only for flip flops or sliders.
Any other time totally impractical.

What if you get in a fight or you have to run somewhere or help somebody carry something?

Footwear for idiots.
On holiday as soon as i venture out from pool activities the trainers are back on. People going on like menopausal women with hot flushes because their feet are a bit warm then wearing socks anyway. Dingbats
Same. I live in Spain and the only time I wear flip flops (no socks) is when I'm in my house or if I'm specifically going to the beach to lay about or swim (which is next to never).

Siders have been around for ever but were just called flip flops. Noticed last year my daughters calling them sliders.

They wear them. Not with socks though.

my young'un started calling them that, he swims a lot so spends a lot of time wearing them. I hammered him when he got off the train wearing them with socks, he sent me a pic of the whole team similarly attired. I despair

If you’re driving, best wear something safe and sensible.

Driving in flip flops or bare feet are against the law in Spain and quite rightly so.
