Nah, not for clubs like ours. If they'd thrown us two in with Man Utd and Norwich I'd fancy us to to finish 2nd and 3rd. Swapping places depending on the day.

It mostly is, for the fans. Do think it's a factor for players though. They want to play for prestigious clubs which is why, like I say, Burnley will find it harder to attract quality than Everton will.

Like I said, bigness means different things to different fans. Leeds fans will insist it's how many travelling fans you take and push the era that trophies count back a bit, Forest will only count the number of European Cups, Newcastle will talk about fanbase, european football and do everything in our power to steer the conversation away from trophies...

You would have to laugh if Rafa does leave, Ashley has somehow stumbled upon a big name coach that is willing to get a tune out of a pretty meagre bunch and the fans love him. Why on earth would you not give him what he wants and enjoy a hassle free season
 
Within giving it much thought,who would you say are the two biggest clubs in Germany,Holland,Belgium,Turkey,Russia and France.You'd probably go for the two best known clubs because we'd struggle to name the two most successful clubs in all those countries.Would fans of European clubs be correct in saying Liverpool are bigger than Man City.

To quote a former top professional (and mag) and now chief exec - "Footballer like Money, and if you pay them enough they will come". Big largely doesn't come into it beyond those players looking for CL football. If Burnley paid higher wages they could recruit now problem as players would be happy to live in South Manchester/Cheshire.

Aye but they'd have to pay more than Everton would. Compensation for playing for a "smaller" club.

I'd agree with that to extent, but it would work the same way with location as well.

A north east team would have to offer higher wages than a London club and considering all north east teams have a pretty shitty wage structure in comparison, they would lose out on players most of the time

That’s not true...everyone outside the top 4 comes down to league position and amount of money offered. If Everton and Burnley bid for a player, the player would probably take the highest offer. If Everton and Man U bid for a player, Man U would probably get the player at a lower offer. I don’t think Everton would be in same boat with Burnley. The player wouldn’t choose Everton over Burnley at a lower contract.

We do have to compensate them when going up against similar clubs in London. Fortunately there are few similar clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs are all much more attractive propositions for any player for a host of reasons. It's only really West Ham that you would say are a similar London club to either or our clubs (when we were both in the top flight).

So it would have come down to the contract, where in the league we were likely to be playing most of our games, who the manager was, who else was in the squad, if they were all similar enough then it would come down to whether the player gave a shit about playing London or not.

Not lower, the same. If Burnley offered more, they'd get their man because he's compensated for playing at a less prestigious club. If they offered the same, the player would plump for Everton.
