Saw gastro and I'm in remission :D

I'm on two different drugs at the moment. I've got to start tapering off one over the next three months and then wait three months and see him again. If I'm still ok then, he'll start tapering me off the other one.

I'm not cured and the Crohn's could flare up again at any time, but if I take care of myself, he said I've got a good chance of being healthy for a while *fingers crossed*

Forgive my ignorance but what measures do you have to take to keep healthy? Is it a complete nightmare or is it achievable without making your life a misery?

Just be sensible. Avoid trigger foods, eat healthy and look after myself. Try and avoid stress and running myself into the ground by taking on too much work, which I am guilty of

Are they giving you Azathioprine or did that not work for you.

Yes I'm still on that.

It's the Octasa I'm tapering first to see if I can manage without that, then I'm hopefully coming off the azathioprine in November. Be nice to have an immune system again :D

I'm not sure if this will help you or not but I've had indeterminate crohns/ulcerative colitis for over 30 years. I have been in hospital for 2 week stints on numerous occassions. I have tried all combinations of mesalazine, steroids etc. I was constantly in a state of flare ups for years some lasting 6 months or so. In the last year I started having one a day of those activia yoghurts or aldi's version and I have not had a flare up for over a year. Maybe worth a try.

Really pleased that you're in a remission phase. In my near 40 years of Crohns I think the longest 'no bother' period was around 5 years so hope you get at least that. Until I had the bowel surgery I wasn't able to stop the Azathioprine. Tried once but after a couple of months it eventually totally wore off and a nasty slump ensued. Mind, never had any issues coming off Mesalazine (Octasa). Keep it going!

Pleased to hear your great news:cool: Best wishes for your plans going forward!
