Grand Central bids to increase links between Sunderland, Hartlepool and London

GC is a good service, used it plenty tho prices can get high at times. However, make no mistake, they are only interested in the Sunderland route to soak up the York to London line, that's where they make their money. All good news however I'd like to see the NE regional lines service updated and improved to a more regular service to more places.

not really sure what people expect to be honest.

there isn't a weekday train that gets you into London before 9am. thats my only gripe.

A station befitting of a decent sized city mate. Not a oversized metro station.

What's wrong with the station? Pubs near, bait places near, bogs, seats, screens. Am I missing summit?

Needs to be more aesthetically pleasing to the superficial amongst us. Including me and any visitors we get.

It’s frustrating that when parts of the north get ready for HS2 that there is no sign of electrification of the Sunderland and Hartlepool line, that would make a big difference to times.

They should probably focus on making the service reliable first, ever since they got these 'new' trains in they seem to be cancelling services every day due to faults. Much prefer using GC to Virgin but I actually want my train to run so have stayed away from them recently

This is of course only in anticipation of the rise in passenger numbers following the construction of the new station at Horden.

Yes. The daily commute of traders/bankers from Horden to Canary Wharf.;)

Love Grand Central me. 10minutes from house to station n roughly 2/3 of the price of trailing to durham or darlo. Often cheaper ie £26 ew around 11am. Friendly staff, trains improving, good legroom from day 1.

It’s very reliable, I use it every week. They have to be as they’re on a fully commercial model

As a fairly regular user of the trains from the NE to that London for the last couple of years I'd always preferred GC until recently.....constant delays/cancellations since the new year (they've been acquired by Arriva haven't they? Don't know if that's why)

What's with the overhead shelving on their trains now anarl?! (they took their much roomier old HSTs out of service around xmas iirc) Can barely even fit a child sized backpack on it, nightmare if you have a big bag/case on a busy service and the racks & room between the seats are filled up.

How recent you talking mate. Used them weekly for a good 2/3 years no bother but only once a month recently (new trains).

Thanks for that.

If staying over I take a Mike Ashley case that I can bray into the overhead, hate leaving 30 foot away out of sight.

Have you frequent lads ticked ‘receive info’ on your accounts? You get a 20% voucher after every trip. Saved me a grand last year I reckon.
