It's only being played at eight grounds, so there will be none at Durham

Is this going to be extra, with the new franchise T20 and the county blast T20?

Very disappointed in the BBC on this, as it seems the background to all this is that they need a 3 hour rather than a 3.5 hour slot.

Could they not move either the 1830 or 2200 news to BBC2 once a week?

Yeah, ultimately, it's trying to find a format suitable for broadcasting on a non-sport only channel and is a way of appeasing viewers who will find their expected program delayed because the cricket is running over time.

It's not remotely to do with the ground going paying customer though. It's all about broadcasters and broadcast rights.

Exactly

All I’m saying is feel free to take the piss out of it

But don’t ever criticize the lack of cricket on main television

Can’t have it both ways

Do you think it's going to be on BBC1 at peak time, other than maybe the final? It'll be on BBC2 over 5 weeks. The problem isn't the time slot as much as matches over-running their time slot.

If you can’t sit through a Twenty 20 without getting bored you aren’t and never will be a cricket fan

The problem isn't cricket fans, it's people who don't like cricket and matches going over their allotted broadcast slot.

Will the SKY games still be 20 overs! What a farce. Makes me want to watch this rubbish even less. FFS have a 2 divisions of 9 set up, think of all the good players who will miss out. Ridiculous.

Just watching this on news at 10 now. Apparently its about attracting more support. They wont be attracting any more support in our region as Durham are not deemed worthy to be part of it.

Other than that its difficult to say much more. I hope it falls flat on its arse.

I wont ever watch any of this on TV let alone attend a game and I am a cricket fan.

Another absolutely brilliant article from George Dobell.

FTECB are killing cricket, all in the quest of lining their own pockets and fuck everyone else.

Oh and apparently it was a f***ing woman who came up with the idea of a 10 ball over and suggested it be used as a 'wildcard'.

Why don't we just call it f***ing baseball?

I like Baseball, it has a lot of similarities to cricket and has a history going back longer than our own football league. Its much maligned in this country but is actually a very good sport. They have not decided they need a 3 innings version or a 100 pitch version. Their game is fine as it is and they leave it alone. The ECB could actually learn a hell of a lot from MLB.

These days I watch more baseball than cricket.

From the point of view of the BBC dictating to the sport how to play a game based on a time slot available on BB1/2, then that's rowlocks. T20 is only 40 more balls FFS! The BBC also could broadcast on the old Channel 3 on TV and Internet to accommodate the extra time. If they're that desperate for entertainment then why not have a Beer Match League where every player has to bowl one over?

Yeah, I'm keen on baseball to in fairness - Oakland A's especially - but still prefer cricket.

The way to make cricket interesting is to put some life into the wickets instead of making roads so every line and length can be clubbed for six. Cricket used to be about the challenge of scoring runs against genuine seam, swing or spin.

Seeing Rashid Khan bowling today, it wouldn't spin or do anything up and down. The pitches are an absolute farce. Him, Ashwin and Shakib went at nearly 14 an over each

How often can you watch a ball being slogged out the ground before getting bored?

Why is it teams can consistently score near 400 in 50 overs but not in test cricket?

Restrictions on field placings, restrictions on bowlers overs, stricter definition of wide ball, power plays, shorter boundaries in general, knowing you're restricted to 50 overs so you can bat with less caution especially late in the innings. In tests you bat to occupy the crease, against defensive fields and bowling and so on.
