Going to the theatre yes or no

yeah. although there is some very experienced people involved. but its voluntary, in peoples spare time, the production, directors, actors, sound, lighting, costume, set designs, bar people etc..

get yourself along, its great value for money, and every penny spent on tickets/bar etc.. goes back into the theatre to keep it running
Played there many years ago, when there was some mining related play on

Seen Jersey Boys at the Empire and Sunny Afternoon, Phantom of the Opera and Billy elliott down London.

Sunny afternoon was tremendous. Helps that I love the kinks mind.

We go every so often to The Royalty and it's always a decent night.....it's just making the effort after you've got in from work
I've got no excuse, I work from home.
I support loads of cultural stuff around the city but not the one that's actually on my doorstep. Just looked at the annual membership, £40 is nowt.
@tunstallhill is there a best time to buy a membership, is there a season when you have shows on or does it not matter?

Love going to the theatre and yes I love musicals - was at the Empire last night for Thoroughly Modern Millie and really enjoyed the show
same here. got a couple of weekend trips planned for london.

price of shows now are horrific. best seats £150 each

and the fees

as I suffer from nerve end deafness, I like to be near, but not at them prices.

wicked was up in the gods and could not hear them speaking

Aye season starts September, only 3 or 4 more left this season so not worth it now. I'm in the one at end of May.

it isn't plus you get a ticket for the pantomime.

My wife still goes to the panto and she prefers the royalty to the empire panto. Royalty panto is very popular.

My complaint about royalty is the don't serve draft beer or lager

I could buy a bottle or a can and drink in the house

Nah, not for a peasant boy like me. Mrs R is a bit cultured though and goes to shows, Ballet and opera at both Theatre Royal and the Empire. In fact she is there now with "the Lasses". Forgot what she said was on.

Covers for 6 free shows and a panto

Telstar. Joe Meek story.
The Young Lion. Football play.

I think 30 yrs of theatre going have provided me with two nights of entertainment.

Managed to get 4 for around £60 each.
Taking the family to see it in the summer.
We applied for any availability from December onwards.
An afternoon in June was the first available.

Got to be the school holidays or a weekend for me like..probably why prices are so high...cheers.

I am not a fan of musicals at all. I like the theatre and love straight plays and comedy but a play in which characters suddenly burst in to song and dance just irritat me.
The strangest musical ever has to be the hugely successful South Pacific it has some good tunes but is set in the. Pacific theatre of war in World War two. It has dancing and singing US sailors surrounded by beautiful women in a tropical island paradise. The musical was produced for the theatre in 1949 and is an absolute denial of tbe shear hell the Pacific War must have been for those who were engaged in it. Young soldiers must have still been dying of their wounds as the show hit broadway and the many who had been traumatised by the campaign must have been totally ignored by the folks at home who were being pursaded that the poor guys had the time of their lives.
For me South Pacific has the most bizarre subject matter of any musical that I have ever come across .

Seen some mint stuff at the Empire and Theatre Royal - Hairspray and Dirty Dancing were surprisingly excellent. Went with the wife but I ended up enjoying it too. Rock of Ages was outstanding too.

I have social anxiety so dont like going anywhere.

But if you are enjoying something, don't stop because of your preconceptions or that others do not enjoy the same thing. That would be silly.
