Scandi noir/drama recommendations/discussion

Just finished watching a 6 part drama on the Universal Channel called "The Disappearance"..........very, very good (the ending was superb and I admit I cried like). A bit of a slow burner but well worth a watch, I'd give it a 7/10 generally but a 9/10 for the ending.
If that was the French series based on The Killing then I agree it was excellent.

Excellent acting, particularly both parents and the male, female cop pairing.

This was a Canadian drama I think :
During a treasure hunt, on his 10th birthday, Anthony Sullivan inexplicably disappears. During the subsequent investigation long-buried familial secrets are uncovered with devastating consequences.
Stars:
Peter Coyote, Joanne Kelly, Micheline Lanctôt

Fabulous stuff .

What’s the Bridge like ? Noticed it on the bbc iplayer, can’t be arsed if it’s a 12 parter “slow burner”..
It's bloody fantastic! Woman in leather trousers too if that helps?

But not Scandinavian? :)

Don’t suppose anyone saw the first two episodes of salamander on bbc4 last night? First series was pretty good for memory, was going to watch it on iPlayer tonight...

Also, Ride Upon the Storm premiered on Danish telly Sunday night. From the fella who did Borgen and so far very good viewing. Lars Mikkelsen is wonderful as a slightly bonkers priest from a family of priests, the entire family is riddled with issues. Already looking forward to episode two on Sunday. Please keep an eye out for that one on UK telly as I have a feeling few would be disappointed.

What did you make of Ride Upon the Storm? I can’t recall if you commented on the end? I was looking back through this thread and noticed you gave this a heads up at the same time under the surface was first announced?

I presume under the surface was a one off anarl? IMDb dates it was (2017 - ) which hints to future offerings?

@Dagzd1973 , wher you getting it from I got the bridge ok but cant find a source for the killing or rita ?
PM me if you would please.
I usually use Mega, never bother with torrents.

Actually I've just downloaded the fkn American version of the Killing by accident  I'll find the original like. Rita was easy to find. Giz a shout if you want Mega links.

1864 is worth checking out too...

A 20 episode series seems so noughties now... I don’t know if it’s due to the sheer volume of choice & availability but I’d never signup for something with more than 10 (1 hour) episodes now.
I have to admit I've been complaining about a few Netflix dramas recently which went on far too long for me and felt as if they dragged a bit. Manhunt: Unabomber had a few too many, I lost interest in some Marvel ones for sure.

I found Ride Upon the Storm wonderful. Lars Mikkelsen does one heck of a acting job in his role as the father. In both 'fatherly' ways. Series two will be shown later this year and am looking forward to it a lot. Despite the ending of series one, which was heart-breaking. Mikkelsen is bound to fall even more apart in the second series.

I haven't heard of a follow-up to Below the Surface but Greyzone is of similar ilk and episode eight (of ten) was shown here tonight. Worth keeping an eye out for.

Looking forward to watching The Bridge 4 again. Not long now.

Both Ride Upon the Storm and Below the Surface were co-written by the lad who penned Borgen by the way. Though on Below the Surface I think he was more of a come-to person.

The Killing series 1 (4 altogether)
The Bridge series 1
The Bridge series 2
The Bridge series 3
Rita

You might want to start with The Bridge actually as the final series is due on BBC 2 in May and both @alexander and @errant reckon it's the best one. But you need the back story really.

Has the BBC set a date yet for The Bridge 4 or is it still just sometime in May ? Am having my fifth heart procedure in a year 9 May and it would do me good to have something to look forward to the following two weeks where I will be pretty much immobile.

1864 is worth checking out too...

1864 is good.

Rita, too for that matter. Some good picks there. Though am not sure I would put Rita in the 'drama' category. Very much worth a watch though.

No still no definite date for The Bridge 4. Just 'May'. But you've already seen it. :) Hoping all goes well with the procedure. And if you're at a loss for something to watch I can recommend a few things on Netflix.
