Onions Lancashire Squad Best I've Ever Played In

I have to say I haven't heard 0f or read any bitterness from him towards Durham. Giving a bit of praise to his current County can hardly be evidence of bitterness to his previous one. County players tend not to comment about teams other than their own anyways.

If in a few years GO goes into coaching and there was a spot open at Durham I'm sure he'd be over the moon if he could grab it.

I agree - I have no issue with Bunny who I think is a great bloke and a fantastic servant. Hes just wrong in what he says.

bunny wanted a two year contract, we wouldn't give him one basically because of his age and offered him a one year deal, he went else where and we offered a two year deal to someone the same age. how is it difficult to understand how that would disappoint him [and i'd have thought alot of durham followers] :?:

It won't be as simple as that.

Rimmington's contract will undoubtedly have an option written into it which means we don't have to take him for the second year if it isn't a good fit.

But Onions was offered a 2 year contract with the proviso that he remained fit to fulfil it. What is unreasonable about that?

24 great players? That'll be you keeping the bench warm then.

Absolutely

I think the media have lost the plot, basically if you have to score a 100 just to be in the team, it doesnt matter if you get 50s 3 in a row, they don't count only 100s do.

Stoneman will get loads of slack as there is literally nobody snapping at his heels and, if anything, Cook is as likely to get the bullet.

It's great if you're a Lancs fan hearing that and I can understand why he would say it to please them. But it doesn't sit well with DCCC fans as he wasn't forced out. We were realistic in offering him the terms laid out, given his age and recent injury record.

He is in the twilight of his career. He gets offered a one year deal at a second division club or a two year deal at a first division club. Why the holy fuck would he chose to stay at Durham?

Why not? Never wanted to leave before, he would have got another deal if he bowled.

Just don't like all this mouthing off in interviews, just don't say anything.

Stoneman should do for sure, I needs to do a bit more of course, but the way the pundits talk about him he is just getting single figures scores

I think he is doing fine personally, he gets through the new ball and doesn't get out early, just a handful of times. He is being made to look worse by Cook

I agree with yah.

i don't remember hearing that offer was on the table, fair play if so i'll hold my hands up. coaching chances also seemed to be a sticking point.

ultimately i'm just disappointed he will be turning out for lancs and not us, especially after becoming our leading wicket taker in the dying ashes of the season all the while whilst not knowing if he was going to be offered a contract even. i thought it was quite disrespectful the way it was spoke about through the season of him having to prove himself when he was our second best bowler through out most of the season and ended on a high

The public aren't fully aware of contract negotiations so it's difficult to know the rights and wrongs. Clearly he feels he's been harshly treated. I do think it was sad that he should have gone public on his negotiations with Durham and also make what was also clearly an unnecessary dig at Durham when talking up Lancashire's prospects.

I don't really know but I'd imagine there would be something in contracts about press and promotional type work. At the very least it's something you should be able to expect from your players.

Didn't the fans, ie us, want to know what was happening at the time? And in the absence of information wasn't there a bit of speculation? I say we did and there was.

There's no great scandal occurring if a player and a club of any kind have a disagreement or have a parting of the ways. I think both parties have been dignified here and way less than Colly showed when he was let go by England and yet England and Colly are best of mates now.

Certainly no scandal and he's perfectly free to accept whichever contract he prefers. It's unusual for players to go public on the issue, certainly a first at Durham. Thought he demeaned himself if I'm honest sitting in the public seats making out he was hard done by.
Anyway it's history now and the lads are playing cricket at last.

My understanding was Onions was only offered a 1 year deal at much reduced wages. I've never heard he was offered a 2 year deal.

His reasons for leaving as i understood it was a longer contract securing his families future for a longer period.

I stand corrected if I am wrong.

"It's possible that things would have been different without the wage cap but I couldn't guarantee that," said the Durham coach Jon Lewis. "It's maybe not a direct result of the wage cap and the sanctions but maybe there is a correlation as well. It's tricky to say for sure. I think we reached a financial agreement for next year with Graham but it was the second year which was crucial to him. The club wanted some guarantees in the first year as to how many games he played before we would commit to the second" . Edwards, Cricinfo Sept 2017

Well Bunny lad. Bowled out of 73 letting Jake Ball take 9 for 57 in the match against you and losing by 6 wickets. Canny start for the Lancashire all stars.

Lancashire LOSE to Nottinghamshire by 6 wickets.

12 wickets for 25 runs in an hour and a half in the morning session, Lancashire who began on 58-2 lost 15-8 and then Notts were 10-4 in pursuit of victory
