American sport films

The baseball fillum about the team back in the 20s who were bribed? Chicago Something’s?
Chicago White Sox.
The scandal involved Arnold Rothstein, one of the main characters in Boardwalk Empire.
I haven't seen the film though.

.....and also the guys who "came back" in Field Of Dreams.

Yeah, I saw that movie too a few weeks back. Tom Hanks amongst others. Quite enjoyed it, knowing a few of the names and a bit of the story from other movies.

I pecked up any given Sunday the other day as a podcast I listen to was going on about it
I think in a 'so bad its good' way ??

After watching it tonight, I definitely would not put it in that category. Classic Oliver Stone movie as far as I'm concerned. Very good.

I do love aagood sports movie as well.....
Mean Machine (The Longest Yard)
Kingpin
Cool Runnings
Plus loads of others and then the more serious ones like
The Fighter
The Blind Side
We Are Marshall
And again loads more already mentioned and others that haven't, too many to mention.

Quite like Remember The Titans. Class soundtrack anarl.

I had to look up what it was called but The Greatest Game Ever Played is canny anarl - Shia LaBeouf (before he disappeared up his own arse) playing the first amateur golfer to win the US Open.

Eight Men Out. Decent film but more for baseball aficionados than a general audience. Great story though. It kinf of dovetails with Field of Dreams.

Bull Durham is a just a great sports film. Tim Robbins is just so funny in that and he plays it great opposite Costner's cool.

Cobb. Another baseball film and for my money one of Tommy Lee Jones' best ever roles playing the lead part of the aging but still mean as hell Ty Cobb. Cracking film.

'The South may not rise again young man, but my dick will.'

It's a film genre that I particularly avoid I have to say. Americans and their sports have little interest for me, I can't think of one I liked. Sorry - I'm adding nothing to this thread, I'll leave.

Just remembered one - Breaking Away, I rather enjoyed.
I think American sports are shite in the main, but as @Tommasi mentioned, they can make for a canny film. Obviously not an American sport like, but as it's big over there golf fits that category as well.

The Wrestler is canny anarl
Aye, shite (non-)sport, good film. And the lovely Marisa gets her perky little tits out. Wharra bonus.

Days Of Thunder.
Talladega Nights.

Both feature John C. Reilly.

Dunno if it can be classified as a sports film but "Beyond The Mat" which is a documentary film about the WWE which uncovers what life is like as a pro wrestler is brilliant.

Just a shame that being mid 90's it is a little out of date. Most superstars don't compete for the WWE anymore.
