Without defending Smith, as I hate the bloke, the more you read by the right journos, seems Smith was led astray.

They should have kicked him out a while back
 
Someone made a good point on Twitter. The three players implicated are all batsmen. Surely the bowlers must have known and agreed to it/asked for it? How come none of them are involved? I actually feel sorry for Bancroft. Just a young boy new to the team asked to do something by his captain and vice captain. Sure not many players would refuse or grass them up.

Smith's a grown man ,you can't say he's an impressionable youth who didn't know what was going on .
