Bobby Robson

The very fact you are on here is taking the piss...the last thing we need as the biggest club in the north east is pitty
Oh I don’t feel sorry for you, don’t worry

“My greatest memory there was Bobby Robson, playing for Bobby Robson, so you know that was it really. I was lucky he signed me and just to be involved with him, because he understood the club and you know he knew what the club was, he knew what the people were, which I think was key to going into a new club. You have to understand who you represent and who you are trying to play for, and he made it clear to us. we had a good team, we had a really good team, we were young, alot of athletes and we finished third, fourth and fifth. The year we finished fifth I could just sense it wasn’t, a few of the fans were expecting more they were expecting league titles. Newcastle united win league titles? I don’t think so! And I just thought they expected and things started to turn alittle bit and I just felt we didn’t start the season well particularly like we didn’t start any season well to be honest but we always came back with a late run you know, and just got there. We didn’t start one season too well and I can just remember, alot of fans were turning and booing and Skysports would be outside the ground and Newcastle fans would be moaning about this and that, and it just led to the manager getting sacked, which was just a complete shock and was embarrassing really when I look back on it now, how he can get the sack, but I also thought the crowd played a big part of in that as well, and for me I’ve had options to go back up there since and I wont! no chance! because I played for him and there is no one else to play for up there.”

-Craig Bellamy

Or

Yes. This fits in with what I said. People weren’t happy and wanted change. In retrospect, a huge mistake.

Jesus wept, you've got issues. ALL obsessed, horrible ***** the lot of you? I've got loads of red and white mates, I've been best man for two, and my best mate is red and white. Perhaps it's just you who's blinded by hate?

I'll fuck off back to true faith or toontastic when someone who I respect tells me, not a tosser like you
If your best mate is red and white then show some respect and stop being a sad little man posting on your rivals board, join a mag board, you are not wanted here, get lost.

You are right yes but a lot of mags love re-writing history. Wasn't there a big belief amongst Newcastle fans at the time that he was 'past his sell-by date', and they required a young vibrant manager to get a tune out of a divided bunch of young players ? They ended up with Souness.

Pretty much yes. When they missed out on the champions league, a large majority deemed him not good enough to take them any further and they demanded that the club seek a replacement. This was compounded at the beginning of the following season when they started badly and their fans were booing throughout their games. They of course now choose to ignore this, preferring to think they backed him to the hilt and everything was rosie.

Still remember the footage. The image of Sir Bob desperately trying to rake a lime green hockle bomb from his slightly withered cheek will never leave me. Shocking.

His wife caught it on her phone. "Oh a Newcastle fan has just spat on my husband. Very nice."

There’s a Bobby Robson film coming out later this summer apparently.

They’ve got Shearer in to do some interviews saying how brilliant Robson was. That’s Alan Shearer who Robson felt ‘betrayed’ him while he was at the club.

But they don’t rewrite history.

Shearer will do anything to self publicise for his goody image. A wanker in private but wants to be a media darling. What a **** to appear on any documentary praising BR

I heard he is a canny bloke.
Why wouldn't he appear on a documentary? He played under him as captain for 5 years

"The new chapter, in which Sir Bobby wasnt quoted directly".??

My dad has met a fair few Footballers and even the likes of Harper and Given don't have much good to say of Shearer.

You can’t put the mighty Alan on the bench and get away with it. No wonder Sir Bobby & Ruud both got sacked immediately after doing this.

You might want to replace the large majority bit with the word some then at least you are not making shit up.
I remember at the time I thought it was getting on for time time for him to go, nothing to do with league position but because I thought he was getting a bit old and doddery. I can tell you though at the time my opinion was far from the majority.
Even though I thought it was getting on time for him to go I thought it should have been at the end of the season and I was appalled by the way the board treated him and I can tell you for a fact being appalled by the way he was treated was the overwhelming opinion of the majority.

Makes me laugh when you read the bit from Craig Bellamy that someone posted a couple of pages back because I have been to training sessions and seen the way he and a several others treated him near the end of his tenure. At the end of the day the guy was 70, young blokes think they can get away with murder with a someone that age, while they still have a lot of respect they push the boundaries and that was starting to happen.

At the end of the day the vast majority of Newcastle fans held and still do hold Bobby Robson in the highest regard. Did some want him out, yes of course, did some think he should be sacked, yes of course, was it the majority ......absolutely not.
