I must admit being in pubs in Sunderland when there were some particular unfortunate chants about him, I'm talking the whole pub.

You are right yes but a lot of mags love re-writing history. Wasn't there a big belief amongst Newcastle fans at the time that he was 'past his sell-by date', and they required a young vibrant manager to get a tune out of a divided bunch of young players ? They ended up with Souness.

He’d lost the dressing room and was unable to manage the new breed of wanker footballer like Bellamy (neither was Souness tbf) but most match going fans wanted him moved upstairs to a DoF role with a younger manager beneath him. The timing of the sacking after the start of s new season was abysmal and whilst people were prepared to give Sounessa chance hus appointment wasn’t the popular choice.

Yes the chronicle er al can rewrite history but so can most posters on here every time the subject is brought up.

The man wasn’t perfect (no one is)but he was loved in the NE and beyond and we should celebrate his achievements especially with the national team and as an English manager coaching clubs abroad

Nothing wrong with that ? He was manager of our fiercest rivals....whsts wrong with that ? He passed away and to a man away at Celtic we shouted his name.. . Sunderland supporters are the best !

No I know, this was post him being Newcastle manager, if you know what I mean

anyway I'll shut up, won't achieve anything me bringing this up.
