DNA compulsory

The potential negatives of such a motion outweigh the potential positives massively. I wouldn’t trust the state with looking after anything, after all, they regularly can’t. Also risk of misuse, abuse, confusion or technical/human error leading to drastic consequences.

If the government passed a compulsory DNA collection scheme, then how long would it take before insurance companies lobbied MPs to introduce a law to allow them access to your DNA?

Sorry Mr. Smith, your DNA profile indicates you're at an increased risk of diseases X, Y and Z so your premium is ££££££.

Even if you didn't know that, and didn't want to know that, they would, and they'd use it against you.

In combination, a compulsory government held database would also imply a faith in the data to those accessing it which may not be the case. This would make them act on the data as fact which would be hard to guarantee over such a cumbersome and large database of material.

DNA is great, especially for cold cases, but we have to hope that the perp breaks the law again, then has their DNA taken etc. Familial DNA has also proved helpful in solving crime - I think any sample should always be checked through the system as a matter of course (hopefully we have something like CODIS etc).
The problem is those wily fucks that say murdered someone before DNA profiling was introduced, then go on to live a crime free, regular life. DNA should not be taken at birth, but I always wondered if the health authorities keep the baby heel prick tests and whether the samples are sufficient enough to get a full DNA profile from etc ?

@Lankester Merrin has some significant doubts over the govt's ability to manage databases iirc

We’ve previously had CRM database bugs that have swapped field entries between records randomly and even after fixes, the original data has been left in an unknown state. It is incredibly easy to bugger up a database on a technical level, throwing humans in to the equation only magnifies it. They struggle with USB sticks never mind database integrity.

I have no idea what that means. Less Star Trek, more English!

that bloke in Newcastle who has been charged with sex attacks from the 1980s from dna gained from a recent neighbours dispute... why don’t they make it compulsory to take everyone’s dna sample once age 18 ? Would solve loads of cases surely ?
Or maybe a tag inserted so they know where you are at all times.
It'll end up like hunger games

The polis have mine.

Not sure how long they get to keep it like.
As long as you sign the register.

all well and good till they knock at your door and take you away to the clink for life, as your DNA has paired you to a murder you didn't commit

i imagine it would be even more probable if you were a critic or opposition to the government.
