Should we get rid of the 1p and 2p coins?

I'm glad you can do your sums. You carry on paying Bob the builder 100% of the quote via direct debit. I'm sure the government will thank you for being 100% up front and transparent. Like they are.

So it's okay for sole traders or businesses to avoid tax, because the government aren't transparent?

Doesn't make it right.

I agree. But a wholesale crack down should be done. It's unfair that people who scrape by are subsidising multi national companies that make billions in profits. If they paid their fair share then that £100 job could legitimately be £80, then we're all winners and not just Jeff Bezos.

Been saying it for years - I'd rather throw them in the bin than carry them around. Pointless.

Someone pointed out that 1p is now worth less than what 1/2 p was when that was scrapped.

5p is the new 1p.
I can only just about see the point of 5p pieces tbh. Only just.

10p is the new 5p.

Apparently in the pennies made 1983 or older, there's 2p worth of copper in them. So if you got loads could sell them for scrap. Ditto with the 2p's having 4p of copper.

It's a yes from me. Pointless low denomination coins. Get rid.

The Treasury could be paving the way for the end of 1p and 2p coins as it seeks views on the future of cash.

It is inviting comments on the mix of coins in circulation as consumers move to non-cash payments such as contactless and digital spending.

Ministers say there are no current plans to scrap them.

But the consultation hints at the growing cost of handling these coins. It also questions the validity of the £50 note.

Is this the end for 1p and 2p coins?

the copper jar is a lifesaver when it gets weighed in. so its a no for me.

A big no from me. I’d not fill my Humpty Dumpty piggy bank with silver coins. Poor feller would end up redundant which may be too much for the lad wot with the accident an that.
