Should we get rid of the 1p and 2p coins?

Nobody will take a £50 though. High denomination notes are big targets for fraud aren't they? Why fake ten fivers when you can fake one £50.

That said when I worked in a shop in Durham and the international students would come in with a £50 for for something that cost £5 it was mildly amusing. Especially as you're only allowed £50 in your till anyways.
Fake £20s were the biggest issue afaik.

Inflation wise £50 today is the equivalent of about £20 back in 1990. It's not that much money, should just a release polymer £50, if they were common there would be less of a risk as people would recognise them as fakes.

Fake money is canny easy to spot unless you're clueless ALL £50 notes get checked so use them at your peril,10,20S Can get lost in the melee

shops like to price stuff £X.99 so it seems cheaper but also the till needs to be rung to get the change. I realise more folk are not paying by cash but shops may be wary of full pound pricing in case some of it does not finish up in the till!

How can a bank refuse copper? Assuming it’s properly bagged up.

Don't think banks don't have to accept anything they don't want to, with the exception of the BoE. We still get our banking for free (which is extremely rare for a business) so we don't to ruffle too many feathers. ;)
