RIP @maximus

Although I am far from popular on this board, Maximus was one of the few on here that I was able to exchange posts with on a sensible level. There was a clear mutual respect between us as supporters of our respective teams. and I was fortunate to be able to exchange posts with him as recently as last week.

However, in terms of supporting my team, I wasn't in Maximus's league. Sunderland away on a Tuesday night (when we're doing well) is about my limit. I couldn't ever imagine me doing a Sunderland to Cardiff type trip for a midday kick off that is live on Sky in a position similar to Sunderland's.

I am in total shock at this news, even more so given that he was posting on here as usual only a few days ago. I can only echo the comments made by others on this thread and my thoughts go out to the friends and family of such a top bloke.

For me, this forum will never quite be the same and I'm sure that will go for many who post on here as well.

Sunderland have lost a top, top supporter here and if ever we needed reminding that some things are more important than football then this terrible news is it.

There's a couple Villa lads in ttonic now, they're getting drinks bought for them. I know I'm biased but I love this city, no animosity at all, I've gone and shook hands with them too. Lads following their club on a Tuesday, this is what it's all about

Well done marra, something similar to what @Maximus would have done.

That’s not a villa fan it’s a walking duvet!

I don't often post on threads like this, that's not because I don't care as I do, its just that its often difficult to find the right words and its effectively someone you knew only in a 'cyber' sense.

Maximus is different however as he helped me out with tickets on at least two occasions for friends. Bournemouth A and Hull A and after a PM or two I spoke to him on the phone. He was friendly and good humoured and good to his word and came across as a decent down to earth bloke who just wanted to help a fellow Sunderland fan and our conversation just confirmed the impression that I had already gained of him from his posts.

RIP to him and condolences to his family and friends. Our away ranks are a man down :(

Well said marra & I also agree with your sentiments about what to say.
Like you I got to know Stevie through him offering to get me tickets, inc last minute ones at Arsenal last season which was good as my 2 sons got to meet him & his family & share a cider together.
My Mrs loved being friends with him/them as it made her feel comfier with his wife & m i l & dad present - as opposed to being stuck with just “lads”.
We were planning a weekend together at Fulham:(
RIP marra & thank you. It was a pleasure knowing you & Im so pleased to have met & known ya

Bloody hell - Just read this and I'm genuinely shocked and saddened
I used to get occasional PMs from him as we shared a love of the Scottish Highlands, Ospreys and of course the lads
Really top lad - he will be missed

He'll be in my thoughts when the Ospreys return to his favourite watching spot in the churchyard at Loch Insh

Does anyone know when his funeral is? I’d really like to go but will need to plan my work time strategically if I can.
I’m not sure me boss would buy
  • “can I have time off to go to a funeral”
  • “whose Funeral”
  • “oh someone I’ve never met off a football message board, but who was a MLF and one of the good blokes in life”
:confused::)

I hope someone can find out, I’m on the rig at the moment, but it would be nice to give him a good turn out. It’s the least we could do after all the things he’s done for folk on here, let alone all his entertaining and engaging posts.

Exactly, if I’ve got certain meetings I can’t re-arrange, some I can, and if I’ve got nothing in my diary I can ‘arrange’ something ;)
But I need to be able to sort it out.
24 th March at 3.00pm when we don’t have a game, sounds ideal :)

Thought of Maximus today.
Looking forward to his trip down the smog and no doubt looking forward to his day out.
Still feels a little surreal on a Friday. Tough week, wine in hand, football weekend, no Maximus.
Our friends from the North. I like that. As previously mentioned going to think of him tomorrow and I will.
RIP.

I was thinking about him when we played the Mags in the under 23 game the other night, it’s an absolute knocking bet he’d have been there. :(
It’s still can’t get me head around it, and that he wont reply to one of me posts again, or that I’ve thought all week about a bloke I never met.
