Don't Bet Against Durham...

I thought they would still go up last season although that hiding they got in the opening match of the season against Notts flattened them a bit. They probably need a bit of luck with injuries and their spin options are poor for later in the season but I see no reason why they can't get promoted.

Not sure about Durham this year. Wafer thin squad and may have to start chucking youngsters in earlier than usual from the academy.

The di Venuto et al days seems like a long time ago.

I like Lewis' attitude in the first article. Yup, Durham have got to keep on producing cricketers as they have and tbh that's a big part of what keeps me interested, seeing the local lads come on and with luck do well.

And yea, I agree with WE No 9, that defeat against Notts was a big one, in the context of the challenge the team had in front of them.

Much as I would like to see Durham promoted I cannot see them competing with Warwickshire, Middlesex, Sussex and Kent.

That article is about a month old and since then there's been news of Durham's improved financial position. The granting of internationals for the next four years further enhances the financial position.
Encouraging form also of players abroad.
I think Graham Clark will have a big year this season.

All four have strong batting line ups but I'm not so sure that any have got the bowlers to regularly take 20 wickets. Finn and Toblerone will be with England if they show any form,Coles has left Kent and Archer and Woakes? miss half the CC at IPL.

I'll take a strong 5th place, with more improvement from Clark, Steel, Potts and Weighell. My worry is that Ireland's test status and (probable) expanding FC schedule will lose us Poynter and McCarthy.
