Has 'Chris Coleman' done a good job overall so far?

I think 7 is about right. He's improved our points to game ratio despite an appalling injury crisis and losing our top scorer. On the other hand, while he has improved our defensive record, he has persisted too long with the 3 CBs in my opinion though.

Pro's: Has to deal with all the wankers in the dressing room, as well as the incompetent arseholes above him trying to destroy the club. Not an easy task.

Cons: Keeps f***ing up tactically. Hasn't publicly executed Rodwell in the centre circle before kick off yet.

I like the fact that he took us on when he could have took his time and waited for a decent premier league job came up. I would have thought he would have been high on Swansea’s list in particular.
I also like how he’s tried his best to remain positive but realistic in our financial situation allied to the injuries he’s had to deal with from the weekend he came on board with Watmore it would be easy to get mired in negativity.
I like that he’s tried to move on people who don’t want to be here and he’s had some success in doing so without being able to shift Kone, NDong and Rodwell for fees.

He’s also clearly made a number of errors of judgement in terms of tactics and team selection and has unfortunately not been able to get the two or three wins on the bounce which would have seen us move up the table and bought him and us much needed time to catch our breath and think.

Jury is very much out on his incoming signings but to be fair he’s had zero to spend and our stock as a club is probably at an all time low so it’s difficult to be overly critical of him on that score.

Out of necessity the kids are being given a run at the minute and hopefully he’ll be proven correct in his statement that they will be better players for the experience.

I like him and would go 6.5 at the minute.

If Saturday means he has stumbled on a system that can get the 10 or so points from these next handful of games that we need then we should be able to reel the likes of Bolton back into the mix.
Next two games are massive and we need 6 points if at all possible.
We need to be brave, aggressive and focused.

Rate 'Coleman' out of 10.
7 for me.

He has brought down the average age of the team substantially, never afraid to give youth a chance. If 'Coleman' can get this lot to adapt to the league we will have a very exciting team in a year or two because they should improve being so young. Under the previous manager we'd have brought in some old carthorses from League One for buttons.
Undoubtedly going about things the right way under his leadership.
Why do you have his name in quotes? Is he going incognito and really called Ralph Coates or something?

Less the loaners of course who will be gone. Will still give him (CC) a 7 though, as he is working for me in what he is doing or attempting to do.

I see a lot of people on this thread talking about Coleman "making mistakes" and "getting it wrong" with regard to lineups and formations but unless you're with him and the players in training every day I don't know how you can make such judgements.

After all, sometimes you can do everything right and still lose. Getting it right does not mean you have an automatic right to a win on the day.

All we see is 90 minutes or so on a match day. In my opinion that's not enough to judge whether or not a formation is the best one to use with the available players, or whether or not a certain player should be starting.

Similarly, it's hard to judge Coleman's ability in the transfer market from just the players we see coming through the door as we don't see all the ones he targeted that said no or who didn't come across well in interviews.

So, upon which criteria can fans reasonably judge managers? In my opinion, only really press conferences and the attitudes of the players in their interviews.

Coleman says all the right things for me and there seems to have been a paradigm shift in the attitudes of the players in interviews. There seems to be a lot of positivity and team unity coming from players, which indicate to me that behind closed doors he's doing a hell of a job.

He's filling me with confidence so far. I think it's great that we have a manager who is clearly a very intelligent bloke and having a positive influence in the dressing room.

As such, and for all the reasons above, Coleman gets a solid 10/10 for me so far for those few things upon which I believe he should be judged.

5 for me, nowt suggest he should be given more then bog standard.

Aye the team is shite and he's had no funds but neither did Grayson.
I'll say 5 too, which is better than I expected from him. I think I'll be scoring him 3 by May, unfortunately.

Press conferences and attitudes of players in interviews is the only way we can judge? What about results? Ultimately press conferences count for fuck all if you keep losing. In the criteria that matters we've improved from Grayson but not sufficiently to escape the drop zone yet, I find it staggering that anyone could even consider giving Coleman a "perfect" 10/10 when we still have a defence that looks like it's never played together a lot of the time. Working with hands tied of course but still, he's rightly got a lot to prove

Cracking job, we should All Rise for him IMO!

5/10, possibly pushing a 6. We'e definitely improved a bit since Grayson and seem to have more of a plan than previously, but he's overseen the worst performances of the season by far (apart from Ipswich away) so he has to take some blame for that.

Results are contextual.

In the context that our already-shit team of last season had been decimated and replaced with worse before CC got here, we had been losing horrifically almost every week before he got here, and he's had practically no money to spend, our results since his arrival have been pretty bloody good in my opinion.

That aside, results are the last thing we should try to judge him on for so many reasons. Not least of which is, as stated in my previous post, you can sometimes do everything right and still lose.

Surely results are a more important indicator of performance than how he sounds in a press conference though! His job is literally to try and improve results, that's why he's here. Yes you have to consider the constraints he's working under, so you can look at his results in that light and make allowances. Hence why I think he's done an okay job, results have been better than under Grayson. I don't give a fuck if he's the most intelligent sounding, most entertaining press conference giver in the history of the sport, if results aren't good enough it'll mean absolutely nothing. So far results are improving a bit but there's a lot of questions still to answer and we still look a very soft touch on occasions, such as in Birmingham and Bristol (first half especially). Improving that will make him more successful, not coming up with ever more entertaining press conferences!

What a load of nonsense.

If we don't perform and get results soon we'll be down.

We need to start putting a decent run results together soon.

If we get relegated I dont expect you'll be happy and post about context then will you?
